- Canadian federal election, 2000 - Jean Chrétien's Liberals win third consecutive majority government
- Greek legislative election, 2000
- London Assembly election, 2000 - Ken Livingstone became the Mayor of London for the first time since the Greater London Council (GLC) was abolished by Margaret Thatcher in 1986. Ken Livingstone was the leader of the GLC at the time of its abolition.
- Mexican general election, 2000 - Vicente Fox historic victory over the long-ruling, Institutional Revolutionary Party and the first defeat of party of government in Mexico in 71 years.
- Taiwan presidential election, 2000
- Toronto municipal election, 2000 - Mel Lastman re-elected as mayor of Toronto, Canada
- U.S. presidential election, 2000 - George W. Bush becomes president after a controversial election contest with Al Gore. He received 271 electoral votes (just one electoral vote above the total necessary for a victory).
