Ghorewahas (or Gorewaha) are Kachwaha Rajputs. "They say that Raja Man Singh , sixth in descent from Kush (one of the sons of Lord Ram), had two sons Kachwaha and Hawaha, and that they are of the lineage of Hawaha (161).They used to live in the districts of Hosiarpur and Jalandher before partition. Many of them belong to Islam, and therefore had to migrate to Pakistan. The famous chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Chaudhary, belongs to this clan. They use Rana as their family title.
History
The Ghorewahas were found in the greatest number in the south and cast of the Nawashahr Tahsil, as well as in the adjoining Garhshankar Tahsil of Hoshiarpur, but they also hold estates in the east of the Phillaur Tahsil , and the Grand Trunk Road between Phagwara and Phillaur may be regarded as approximately the boundary betweeen them and the Manj Rajputs. They are proprietors or part proprietors of Rahon , Nawashar, Gunachaur, Jadala,Awar, Baglaur,Hion, Kamam, Naubra, Apra, Massani, Indina and other places of less importance.
