- Lap Leaders: Ayrton Senna 61 laps (1-61); Nelson Piquet 20 laps (62-81)
- A photo shoot took place before the race as was the norm for the last race of the season, there was also a picture taken with several world champions including Juan Manuel Fangio but Alain Prost, still angry over Suzuka, did not appear in either by his own choice. Five years later, four of the world champions in the picture (Denny Hulme, James Hunt, Ayrton Senna and Juan Manuel Fangio) were dead.
