Trip Lee

William Lee Barefield III a.k.a. "Trip Lee" is a Christian hip-hop artist who has recorded both independently and as a founding member of the 116 Clique. Originally from Dallas, Texas[1], he now resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Trip Lee is signed to Reach Records. He first gained notoriety after appearing on the Reach Records website at the age of 16, having penned a few devotionals on theological matters that well exceeded the general knowledge of a young man his age. His debut album If They Only Knew was released in 2006. His sophomore album, 20/20 was released May 20, 2008 and showed well on the iTunes Music Store[2].

Background

Trip Lee was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. After high school, he moved to inner-city Philadelphia, where he attends Epiphany Fellowship (lead by William Branch and Eric Mason) and is attending Philadelphia Biblical University [3][4]. He was the third artist to release a debut CD with Reach Records[1]. In support of this CD and 13 Letters, Barefield and the rest of the 116 Clique toured extensively. While performing, Trip Lee (and fellow artist Tedashii) were known for integrating their faith into their rap performance[5]. The following year, he was co-nominated for a GMA Dove Award for his contribution to Lecrae's Jesus Muzik.

In 2008 20/20, his second album was released to strong sales, and reviewed as even better than his first CD[6]. It broke into the Billboard top 200 albums and the Christian top ten[4]. He is currently going on another tour, Unashamed, with Tedashii and Sho Baraka[7].
