The entry has been added. You should be "bold" next time and try to add the entry yourself. Other editors will help if you slip up. Regards, WWGB (talk) 12:33, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Matti Juhani Saari

What the HELL is notable about this guy? he is another copy cat *yawn* school shooter. The event is notable. He did nothing in his life before shoot a few people. His death means nothing more than anyone else who died on that event. Please take the name off the deaths list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hsox05 (talkcontribs) 21:34, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Consistent with long-standing practice on this article, the death entry remains for one month. If the person has no article after that time, the entry is removed for lack of notability. At present, the death entry is only a redirect to the incident article. WWGB (talk) 00:48, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. Given that you felt the need to tag even the phrase "copy cat school shooter" with a *yawn* of affected disaffection, you can imagine how fantastically interesting the exact same "notable?" debate is every time it happens. tomasz. 11:57, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Does it usually get deleted after the month? Then why put it on there in the first place. it's all tired. And my statement wasn't really so much debate as stop doing it its pointless... but ok. Hsox05 (talk) 15:42, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's "usually" done on a case-by-case basis with varying results each time. This is because such cases are still considered (by most people anyway, if not yourself) to be quite egregious events that can differ substantially from one to another. And consensus on Wikipedia is generally settled by discussion, not one user saying "stop doing it its pointless" and everybody else grovellingly obeying. But ok. tomasz. 17:04, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Right and your tone is not the exact same as mine, right? Who, other than Cho because of all the publicity and the fact that he killed more than any other, has been deemed noteworthy enough to keep on the lists? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hsox05 (talkcontribs) 18:26, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To me, this noteworthy until deemed otherwise is about on par with 'guilty until proven innocent.' Wouldn't it make infinitely MORE sense to NOT put them on the list until they are deemed noteworthy enough to warrant their own page?? Rather than putting them on there until the powers that be finally give in that there is not enough about the guy for anyone to care about?Hsox05 (talk) 18:29, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hm. I feel it would be more fair to have something about his victims. It really isn't fair to be giving him attention for doing something so horrid and heinous and not mention the people who suffered for it. I think it's only fair. Cyrenaic (talk) 02:52, 26 September 2008 (UTC) So. Is anyone surprised that this guy didn't make it to having his own page? Again, for what it's worth, my say is that these people should be given a page once they are deemed noteworthy. Not because someone wants to make another entry on the deaths page that is going to get deleted in a months time anyway. I am glad to see that it was actually taken down after a month, but to me it was a waste of time from the beginning putting someone like this up there.[reply]

Paul Newman -- cancer, not lung cancer

An edit introduced here ( http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Deaths_in_2008&diff=prev&oldid=241330405 ) jumps too forward on presuming what cancer Mr. Newman may have died of. Reports are that he died of a long struggle with cancer, not lung cancer. Probably a simple misread. No source that meets WP:RS has said Newman died of that cancer or specified any type of cancer yet. Guroadrunner (talk) 21:18, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
