Sergio "Sergi" Busquets (born July 16, 1988 in Sabadell, Barcelona) is a Spanish football player currently playing for Spanish football club FC Barcelona.
Sergio Busquets is the son of the Spanish former player Carles Busquets who played professionally during the 1990s.[1]
In 2003/04 Busquets joined FC Barcelona's Juvenil A team. In 2006/07 season, while still playing in Juvenil A, he played in 26 games and scored 7 goals. In 2007/08 Busquets played in FC Barcelona B team, under Josep Guardiola as a coach. He helped his team qualify to Segunda División B league, with 23 appearances and 2 goals. Busquets made his senior team debut during Copa Catalunya 2007/08. In the next season, Busquets played in FC Barcelona Atlètic for 2 games. After, he started playing regularly for the first team. His debut was against Racing de Santander in September 13. Busquets played in 4 out of the team's 5 first games, and was preferred over Touré Yaya.
On October 11 2008, Busquets earned his first cap for Spain's Under 21s in their first leg play-off match against Switzerland to reach the UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals. Busquets scored in the 17th minute but Spain lost the match 2-1.
Busquets has yet to sign a new contract at Barcelona, with his current deal ending at the end of the season. With talks stalling, on October 16 2008 he was linked with Arsenal and Juventus.[citation needed]
During FC Barcelona's Champions League match against FC Basel at St. Jakob-Park, he scored the second from five goals, to give him his first European goal.
