Leecia Roberta Eve is a Democratic politician and attorney in New York. A resident of Fort Washington, Maryland and former resident of Buffalo, NY, Eve is the daughter of former Deputy Assembly Speaker Arthur Eve and is a former candidate for Lieutenant Governor of New York. She is U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's Senior Policy advisor for her campaign for President, and her Maryland political director.

Candidacy

In 2005, she left Clinton's staff and announced her campaign for lieutenant governor. Eve traveled the state promoting her platform of upstate economic development and homeland security. She received the endorsement of the Harlem Clubhouse, which consists of Congressman Charles Rangel, former New York City Mayor David Dinkins, former Manhattan Borough President Percy Sutton, and former New York Secretary of State Basil Paterson. In January 2006, Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, the frontrunning Democrat for governor, announced his selection of State Senate Minority Leader David Paterson as his running mate for lieutenant governor.

Governor Paterson is the son of Basil Paterson, who had already endorsed Eve. The Paterson selection had angered the Harlem Clubhouse, which threatened to continue their support of Eve. Eve decided several days after Spitzer's announcement to drop out of the lieutenant governor's race and not to challenge Paterson in the primary. Eve has since become a policy advisor and surrogate speaker for the Spitzer/Paterson ticket.

Advocacy

She has also founded the nonprofit get out the vote organization, ShowUpNewYork (http://www.showupny.com/), whose mission is to encourage young people and people of color in New York state to become politically engaged and registered to vote.

Education/Career

Eve is a graduate of Harvard Law School and was an attorney in Buffalo. She worked as the homeland security advisor to U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton after her time as a lawyer. Leecia is also a graduate of City Honors School, Smith College, and The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
