Cygnus Business Media is an American magazine publisher, internet information developer, exposition management provider and custom marketing services company. It was founded in 1966 with the initial acquisition of Photo Trade News, a magazine founded in 1937 which continues to serve the photo trade industry as PTN Magazine.

Cygnus Business Media focuses on B2B media offerings, growing through new product launches and acquisitions to its current portfolio of more than 200 business media products. Cygnus properties include business publications, tradeshows, conferences, websites, online products, custom publications, directories, buyer’s guides, advertising card decks and research capabilities.

In September 2007, Cygnus management announced plans to reduce employee salaries by 7.5% and cut hours to 37 per week per employee, though deadline pressures will remain in place despite the reduced labor and payscale. According to FOLIO magazine, "The dramatic cost cutting comes in response to greater-than-expected revenue shortfalls."[1]

Divisions

Cygnus reaches nearly 15 million business owners, executives and professionals annuall. Its four divisions - Cygnus Publishing, Cygnus Expositions, Cygnus Interactive and Cygnus Custom Marketing - provide industry news, product information and educational materials to several industries and offer advertising and marketing programs for business customers and clients to reach their core audiences.

  • Cygnus Publishing serves more than three million readers each year. Many of its writers and editors hold significant positions with professional associations for their industries, thus helping to maintain strong connections with readers by working directly with the market on issues of interest.
  • Websites managed by Cygnus Interactive provide industry news, editorial content, educational webcasts and podcasts, continuing professional education options, online catalogs, email, online auctions and other services. All together, Cygnus Interactive's web sites attained nearly 100 million page views in 2005, attracting more than one million unique visitors.[citation needed]
  • Cygnus Expositions manages millions of square feet of exhibit space, where thousands of exhibitors and tens of thousands of attendees each year converge at 50 distinct business-to-business trade shows and conferences.
  • Cygnus Custom Marketing specializes in building custom marketing plans for its clients. The division currently publishes 15 sponsored publications.
