MI-5 Persecution is the subject line of a series of Usenet posts, originated by Mike Corley, an Information Technology specialist residing in the United Kingdom.

His messages usually detail how British intelligence has bugged his home and is sending people to follow him around and harass him,[1] but are often crossposted to newsgroups where his messages would be considered off-topic. This has led to claims that he is suffering from paranoia.[2] He has posted transcripts and snippets of conversation that he has recorded, citing it as evidence, years later than the actual event. He has also claimed in his posts that television personalities are often talking about him in code and are part of the MI5 conspiracy.[3][4] None of his claims, however, have garnered any support--either on the Usenet, where his posts are often followed by repeated requests for him to stop "spamming" the newsgroups, or in other media. He is widely believed to be mentally ill.

Corley will often cross-post "examples" of MI-5 victimizing him 20 or 30 posts at a time. He has been banned from posting through Google for his abuse of Usenet[5] and has been similarly barred from most ISPs in England.

In the past, his posts were relatively easy to filter out, due to his similar subject lines and email address. However, at the beginning of 2008, he began a series of posts that avoided filters through sporgery and slightly varying his subject line of "MI-5 Persecution", showing an ability to adapt. The regular expression Subject: {[A-Z][',-`. ]I[',-`. ]5[',-`. ]P} will filter these new "Subject:" lines.

In September 2007, The Corley Conspiracy, an opera by Tim Benjamin to a libretto by Sean Starke, based on Corley's experiences and theories, was performed at the Southbank Centre in London with Paul Tosio in the title role; the orchestral parts were played by the ensemble Radius.[6][7]
