Küstendorf Film and Music Festival

Küstendorf Film Festival is an annual event held during early January in Mokra Gora region of Serbia.

Established in 2008, it is a private film festival organized by film director Emir Kusturica in the village known as Drvengrad or Küstendorf whose construction he financed in mid 2000s on the Mećavnik hill slopes. The festival's main prize for the best film is the Golden Egg (Zlatno jaje).

2008

In its inaugural edition in January 2008, the festival had Nikita Mikhalkov as the main guest who held a workshop with a restrospective of his films also being shown. Other guests included Fatih Akin, Cristian Mungiu (held a workshop), Miki Manojlović, Michael Radford, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica, Eran Kolirin, Danish film critic Christian Monggaard, Matija Bećković, and Romanian actor Razvan Vasilescu.

2009

In 2009, the festival addedd a musical component as well. The main guest was Jim Jarmusch who held a workshop and whose retrospective of films was screened. Others that held a workshop were Kazakhstani film director Sergei Dvortsevoy whose feature film Tulpan was also shown at the festival and long time Cannes Film Festival artistic director Thierry Frémaux. The three-person jury included actress Anica Dobra (jury president), producer Karl Baumgartner and film director Gian Luca Farinelli. The Golden Egg went to documentary short film Godog by Kohki Hasei.

On the music side of things, the festival featured performances from The No Smoking Orchestra, Natty Bo and the Tom Cats, Leb i sol, La Mano Ajena, Haydamaky, etc.
