Status Unknown
Gender Female
Occupation Nurse
Origin  United States, Milwaukee County
Family Louis Clark (husband Deceased)

Ana Clark (played by Sarah Polley), is a fictional character from the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, she is a nurse in Milwaukee County.

After returning home from her job as a nurse, she and her waiting husband Louis make love in the shower--missing an emergency broadcast about the spreading zombie epidemic--then go to sleep. The next morning they are woken by their zombified neighbor, a young girl, who bites Louis in the throat. Ana locks the zombie out of the room, but despite her frantic efforts, Louis dies, immediately reanimates as a zombie, and chases Ana into the bathroom. Ana escapes out the window and flees from her now chaos-torn neighborhood in her car, before a failed hijacking attempt sends her down a small hill, crashing into a tree.

A police sergeant, Kenneth, finds Ana and they meet up with three other survivors; Michael, Andre and Luda. The five break into the nearby Crossroads Shopping Mall. After a scuffle with a zombified security guard at the mall's fountain--giving Kenneth a large cut on his arm while Luda receives a mild bite wound--the three leave the fountain after Ana shoots the zombie in the shoulder with the shotgun that Kenneth had dropped during the scuffle. The five then confront three living security guards, C.J., Bart and Terry, and they give up their weapons in exchange for refuge. After the group secures the mall, they head up to the mall's roof to paint an SOS sign.

The next day, a delivery truck arrives at the mall, carrying survivors Norma, Steve, Tucker, Glen, Monica, Frank, Nicole, and an obese woman. They let them in, and Ana then helps the three injured, two of whom, Frank and the obese woman, are bitten and the third, Tucker, with just a cut on his foot. However the obese woman, whose bite wound is at her neck (similar to Ana's dead husband) dies almost immediately, then reanimates and is killed by Ana, who thrusts a metal fireplace poker into her eye.

During the time in the mall, Ana and Michael form a tentative relationship. This finally comes to fruition while she and him are on one of the buses that they plan to arm and rig for an escape. When he jokes about sticking chainsaws out the side of the bus to cut off zombies trying to crawl on, she comments on it not being very romantic. Michael points out that he is trying, and when the two start to walk off the bus, they start to hold hands, then begin to kiss passionately.

When Steve's negligence allows the zombies to break into the mall, the survivors are forced to quickly evacuate and escape in two buses. When an accident with a chainsaw by Glen accidentally kills Monica, some of her blood splatters on the windshield and causes Kenneth whom is driving to crash, killing Glen as well. Right after the crash, Steve flees the bus and is attacked and killed by a zombie. Upon his reanimation, Ana shoots him dead thus fulfilling her earlier promise to him. While Kenneth escapes to the second bus, she then lingers long enough to get the boat keys off Steve's corpse, but this allows more zombies to catch up with them. Ana flees back to the second bus herself, where Michael helps her in and they get away.

Finally they reach the marina dock, where they attempt to flee on Steve's boat. C.J. stays behind to draw away the zombies, and detonates the last propane tank, killing himself in addition to a bunch of the zombies. The rest of the group starts to get onto the boat, but then Michael stops and reveals that in helping her minutes ago, he had gotten himself bitten by one of the zombies, and insists that he must stay. Ana pleads for Michael to come but he refuses. As the boat sets sail she watches in sadness as Michael, still on the dock, shoots himself.

They begin to sail away and the end-credits roll, interspersed with video footage taken by Terry, using a camera from the boat. The survivors reach an island but are then attacked by a new swarm of zombies. The survivors attempt to retreat to the boat, the camera falls to the ground and blacks out, leaving her and their ultimate fate unknown.

Kenneth Hall

Kenneth tells Andy Fort Pastor is gone
Kenneth Hall
Portrayer Ving Rhames
Status Unknown
Gender Male
Occupation Police sergeant possible ex-marine
Origin  United States, Milwaukee County
Family Un-named brother (likely deceased)

Kenneth Hall (played by Ving Rhames), is a fictional character from the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. He is a police sergeant and possibly ex-marine in Milwaukee County. When infected hosts reanimate into flesh-eating ghouls, Kenneth tries traveling to his brother at Fort Pastor, a nearby U.S. Army base. However Kenneth finds a crashed car with Ana Clark just regaining consciousness.

They meet up with three other survivors: Michael, Andre and Luda. The five then proceed to break into a nearby Crossroads Shopping Mall and narrowly escape a pair of zombies outside. Inside, while Andre and Michael go off to hunt down any stranded zombies in the mall, Kenneth, Ana, and Luda are attacked by a zombified security guard, who almost kills Kenneth (and, unknown to the others, bites Luda in the arm), though he is saved by Ana, who picks up his dropped shotgun and fires a shell into the zombie's shoulder. The zombie then falls back and begins to twitch uncontrollably as it seems that its nervous system was damaged by either the shot or its fall. As it was, Kenneth still suffered a nasty gash in the fight from a sharp piece of the fountain with is later sutured by Ana.

In the mall, they confront three living security guards - C.J., Bart, and Terry - and they give up their weapons in exchange for refuge. After the group secures the mall, they head up to the mall's roof to paint an SOS sign. Down below, the parking lot is starting to fill up with zombies. When Ana asks Kenneth why the zombies are coming, Kenneth replies with a revised take on a classic line from the original film, "Memory, maybe. Instinct. Coming somewhere they use to go to all the time. Maybe they're coming for us."

The next day, a delivery truck arrives at the mall, carrying Norma, Steve, Tucker, Glen, Monica, Frank, Nicole, and an obese woman. They let them in, however the obese woman dies, reanimates into a zombie, and is killed by Ana. The group determines that bites are how the zombies multiply and Frank (who is bitten) is isolated in a store with Kenneth guarding him, allowing him "every single second" before expiring. After Frank dies Kenneth shoots him with his shotgun, and he destroys Frank's reanimated body. When Kenneth hears from the newcomers everyone at Fort Pastor is dead he plans to go to the fort in the truck to look for his brother, but Andy (who owns a gun shop across from the mall) writes a message what's the info on a board, Kenneth's reply is that Fort Pastor is gone. He then decides to stay in the mall with the others.

Later in the film when the power goes out in the mall Kenneth together with Michael, C.J. and Bart go down to the parking garage to turn on the generators, but they instead encounter some zombies and an uninfected dog. They are able to hold off the zombies with fire, but not before losing Bart to the flesh-eating ghouls.

During their time in the mall, Kenneth forms a close friendship with Andy, playing many games of chess and Andy's version of Hollywood Squares using a pick up board. However Andy, who possess firearms but no food, began to show signs of starvation. Kenneth came up with the idea to send Chips (Nicole's dog) to Andy's gun shop to deliver him some food. Chips, the dog, reaches Andy's gun shop successfully. However, when Andy attempts to subtly open a doggie door for Chips, zombies take notice and manage to shove their way into the shop. Kenneth listens on the radio as Andy yells while trying to get away from the zombies, before static eventually takes over the airwave. Kenneth spies Andy coming onto the roof and seems to write something on his whiteboard; however, this is revealed to be nothing but undead instinct as a zombified Andy lifts up the board and Kenneth sees it is covered in nothing but the gun shop owner's blood.

After Nicole, whom has taken to considering the dog as her own, drives to Andy's gun shop in the delivery truck to rescue the stranded Chips but is then trapped in the store by Zombie Andy, Kenneth and a few others gather their meager supply of arms and go on a mission to save her as well as salvage guns and ammo from Andy's now-abandoned shop. They move via the sewers, which are devoid of zombies. They reach the gun store, where Kenneth kills Andy, and rescues Nicole. The group stock up on weapons and ammunition. On their way back, the zombies pursue them into the sewers. Tucker is killed and (thanks to the negligence of Steve, who was supposed to be at the ready to prevent this) the zombies force open the exit door to the mall, prompting an emergency evacuation.

They all run to the buses and break out of the mall. However Kenneth loses control of his bus and crashes when Glen loses control of his chainsaw which in turn goes slashing into Monica's shoulders, and the splatter of blood covers the windshield. The crash kills Glen and Monica. Steve tries to run, but is killed by a zombie. Kenneth and Terry run to the other bus. They are attacked by a reanimated Steve but Ana saves them, then stays behind to grab the boat keys of his corpse. Michael helps her narrowly get away from the rapidly-closing zombies. Finally they reach the marina dock and all leave except for C.J. who is kills himself and a plethora of zombies in a deliberate bus explosion (via detonated propane tank) and Michael who is revealed to have been bitten earlier while helping Ana and opts to stay, killing himself as they sail away.

The end-credits roll, interspersed with video footage taken by Terry, using a camera from the boat. They reach an island, but are attacked by a new swarm of zombies. They attempt to retreat to the boat, the camera falls to the ground and blacks out, leaving his and their ultimate fate unknown.

Kenneth's character name is a nod to actor Ken Foree, who played the very similar role in the original Dawn of the Dead (1978) of SWAT member Peter.

It is also hinted that Kenneth is a Marine Corps veteran implied by the Eagle, Globe & Anchor tattoo on his right upper arm.

Status Deceased
Gender Male
Origin  United States, Milwaukee County

Occupation Television salesman 21 previous jobs

Michael (played by Jake Weber), is a fictional character from the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. He is a television salesman at Best Buy, he also has had 21 other jobs in his life.

When infected hosts reanimated into flesh-eating ghouls, Michael meets up with seven other people, and they try traveling to Fort Pastor, a nearby U.S. Army base. However the route to the base is blocked by zombies, who kill five of their group, leaving behind only Michael, a criminal named Andre and his pregnant Russian wife Luda. After they find a police sergeant, Kenneth Hall and a nurse, Ana Clark, they all break into the Crossroads Shopping Mall.

When they get to the mall, Michael checks around to see if the place is safe, but is confronted by a zombie who was a cleaner at the mall. After a brief, furious struggle, Michael manages to kill it by driving the broken handle of a crochet mallet he had been wielding through the roof of its mouth into its brain out the top of its head. After reuniting with the rest of the survivors, they all confront three living security guards, C.J., Bart and Terry, on an upper floor of the mall, and end up surrendering their weapons in exchange for refuge. After the group secures the mall, Michael has the idea of painting an SOS sign on the roof to be spotted by a plane. They head up to the mall's roof and discover a man named Andy who is trapped inside his gun store on the other side of the parking lot.

The next day, a delivery truck arrives at the mall, carrying Norma, Steve, Tucker, Glen, Monica, Frank, Nicole, and an obese woman. They let them in, however the obese woman dies, reanimates into a zombie, and is killed by Ana. Later in the film Michael, C.J., Bart, and Kenneth enter an underground parking lot to find the emergency generator. They are startled down there by a stray uninfected dog, and after activating the generator and starting to leave, are attacked by zombies. Thanks to quick thinking on Michael's part and quick action on C.J.'s part, they create a wall of fire to block off the remaining zombies, but not before losing Bart to the ghouls.

Back up top, as the realization they can't stay holed up in the mall for very long begins to take hold, Michael begins discussing a plan to get everyone out with the others, taking seriously Steve's sarcastic suggestion to drive away on his boat at the marina. He devises a scheme to armor two of the mall's shuttle buses with metal plating on the sides and grating over the windows, at the same time rigging ports to allow them to chainsaw zombies trying to climb onto the bus, all in order to get through the horde of thousands of zombies outside the mall.

During this time Michael starts to develop a relationship with Ana. They begin to bond after him sharing some of his life stories with her, such as his many past jobs, highlighting a few notable ones, and his wife and child (whom it is strongly implied from his sad look while speaking of them are both dead). Aside from general interaction, their relationship begins to come to real fruition while they are alone in one of the shuttle buses working on the modifications. Michael makes a bad joke, which Ana remarks to be not very romantic, and Michael replies that he is trying. As they are about to leave, they start to hold hands for a moment, then embrace and start kissing.

Later on, the group attempts a scheme to feed the starving gun shop owner Andy by strapping food to the uninfected dog, whom Nicole has named Chips, and sending him across to Andy who would attempt to get Chips in through a doggie door. While this plan starts to work, as the zombies ignore the dog, they do notice the doggie door opening, and force their way and kill Andy. Nicole recklessly uses a truck to plow across the street in an attempt to save Chips, but in trapped in a metal-reinforced closet by the reanimated Andy.

Michael and a few others gather their few weapons and go into the sewers to rescue Nicole and Chips. Steve is left to guard the door to the mall and prep it for their return in the event of zombies following so that none of the undead get in too. They reach the gun store, where Kenneth kills Zombie Andy, and rescues Nicole and Chips. The group also stock up on weapons and ammunition. A detonated propane tank is used to clear a path back to the sewers, but the zombies pursue them, and Tucker is killed. Steve is found to have neglected his duties, and as the group get back in the zombies are able to force open the exit door.

This prompts a rapid emergency evacuation of the mall, and the group of survivors head onto Michael's two modified buses in the garage and head for the marina. One of the buses crashes when a passenger is entered and blood is splattered over the windshield. Steve attempts to escape the crashed bus but is killed by a zombie, then upon reanimation killed by Ana. She remains behind to grab the boat keys off of the corpse, but allows for the pursuing zombies to catch up. She runs back to the second bus where the other survivors are waiting, as the zombies start to swarm on top of them Michael manages to help her get onto the bus.

After reaching the marina Michael reveals to Ana that he was bitten while he was helping her minutes ago, and cannot go with her. Ana, shocked and saddened, pleads with him to ignore the bite and come anyway, that she can heal him, but he refuses and calmly, sadly points out that she herself knew there was no hope for him. As the boat leaves he takes his pistol and sticks it under his chin, Ana watching from the departing boat. With the camera focused on her, a final, ominous gunshot rings out across the water.

After killing Ben, the group secures the mall, they head to the mall's roof to dispose of bodies and paint SOS signs. Terry and Bart throw the bodies off the roof and they see another survivor, Andy, who is stranded alone in his gun store, across the mall's zombie-infested parking lot.

The next day, Terry is first to know about the delivery truck, carrying Norma, Steve, Tucker, Glen, Monica, Frank, Nicole and an obese woman, when he sees it on the security camera. Terry tells the group, but C.J. refuses to let them in. After a stand off (during which Terry sides with the others) C.J. and Bart are disarmed and imprisoned in the holding cell. They reach the gun store, where Kenneth kills Andy, and rescues Nicole. The group stock up on weapons and ammunition, and return through the sewers, pursued by zombies and attack Tucker, who due to a broken leg, is attacked and tells C.J. to shoot him. While driving, Kenneth loses control of one bus and crashes when a chainsaw goes slashing into Monica's shoulders and the splatter of blood covers the windshield. The crash kills Glen and Monica, and Steve who is killed by a zombie, while Terry and Kenneth make it onto the other bus. Finally they reach the marina dock, where they flee in a boat to an island except for C.J. who is killed in the bus explosion after trying to heroically fight the zombies and Michael who is bitten and opts to stay.

They begin to sail away and the end-credits roll, interspersed with video footage taken by Terry, using a camera from the boat. Andy (played by Bruce Bohne) is a fictional character from the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. He is a gun store owner across Crossroads Shopping Mall in Milwaukee County he also much like Kenneth is a ex-marine. He first encountered the zombies while driving his truck and after running over several, apparently made it back to his home in the gun store. Andy reinforces all windows and doors, and has water and drinks, but unfortunately little food. Later he meets a group of people at the mall and forms a friendship with them, mainly Kenneth a police sergeant, with whom he plays many games such as chess and Hollywood Squares using a pick up board. He begins to show signs of starvation when one afternoon he writes on his board "Hungry." As a result the mall survivors send their dog, Chips, with food and a radio. Unfortunately a zombie is able to get inside the store and bites him. When Andy tells the group from the mall about the attack and the bite, they do not tell Andy what the bite will do, but in the hidden tapes of Andy's last days in the special features on the DVD it shows him reanimate, but still have a shred of his humanity left. Before attacking Nicole, who rushed in a truck to go and rescue Chips, he went to the roof, and began writing something on the pick up board; he lifted it up to reveal several blood smears on it. He attacks Nicole, who hides along with Chips in a nearby closet, which Andy is unable to open. Andy has his head shot off by a somber Kenneth.

Prior to his death, he apparently kept a video log of his attempt to survive the zombie onslaught, with the intention of writing a book once the chaos ended. It is revealed in these hidden tapes that he was in fact the father of Vivian, the little girl at the beginning of the movie who bit Louis on the throat. It showed on the video that Vivian found a goldfish to give to Andy as a birthday gift, and named it Ariel, like the mermaid. Following her death, Andy kept Ariel in his gun-shop as a monument to all he has left of his daughter. However, in one segment of the video, it is implied that he, starving and slowly going insane, ended up eating the goldfish. He also showed a lot of disgust for his ex-wife, Sarah, for taking away his home, his daughter (Whom Andy claimed Sarah never wanted in the first place and would have dropped off at her grandparents [Sarah's parents] without a second thought), and leaving him with nothing.

Based on the friendship he and Kenneth formed, it is possible Andy is supposed to be based on the character of Roger from the original film. It is also hinted that he, like Kenneth, is an ex-Marine, given his proficiency with a sniper rifle and his saluting Kenneth following the chess game.

When infected hosts were reanimated into flesh-eating corpse, Frank's wife and sons were eaten or turned. Frank and his daughter hear on the radio that there were survivors hiding in a chapel (St. Verbena), however the claims turned to be false when the only people there were zombies. Luckily a trucker named Norma picked up Frank and his daughter Nicole, along with Steve, Glen, Monica, Tucker and an unnamed obese woman. As the group tried to rush to Fort Pastor they found the fort surrounded by zombies. As a last resort they finally reach the mall where Ana, Kenneth, Michael, and others are hiding. It is discovered at the mall that anybody bitten, dies and then reanimates as a zombie. Frank, who has been bitten is isolated in a store with Kenneth guarding him, allowing him "every single second" before expiring. Frank dies, then Kenneth shoots him with his shotgun, destroying Frank's reanimated body.
