Sam Ryan

Samantha "Sam" Ryan is an American sportscaster. She is currently working for CBS Sports and WCBS-TV.

Legacy

During her career, Ryan has reported on many diverse sporting events, including the Super Bowl XL pre-game (ABC), 2008 Final Four, (CBS), 2007 Final Four, Super Bowl XLI, the Little League World Series (2003-05), the 1996 Summer Olympics ABC Radio Network, the 2000 World Series between the Yankees and the Mets (FOX Sports Net NY and Madison Square Garden Network) and women's college basketball (FOX Sports). She won a New York Emmy Award in 1999 for "Outstanding Series Feature" and garnered a local Associated Press Award in 2000 and a NY Broadcasters Association Award in 2007.

Local gigs in New York

Before joining ESPN and ABC Sports, Ryan worked as a sports anchor and reporter for WABC-TV. In addition, she also has reported for WFAN radio in New York, News 12 Long Island in Long Island, New York, WVIT in Hartford, Conn., and Fox Sports Net New York, where she served as a reporter and anchor for the "New York Sports Report."

ESPN/ABC Sports

Prior to joining CBS Sports and WCBS, Ryan served as the lead reporter for ESPN, ABC and ESPN2's coverage of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including the Stanley Cup Finals on ESPN and ABC. In 2004, she added reporting duties for ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball telecasts. Ryan also has served as a college football sideline reporter for ABC as well as fill-in reporter for the 2005 Monday Night Football season.

Monday Night Football

Sam Ryan filled in for Michele Tafoya on Monday Night Football when she went on Maternity Leave as Ryan filled in for Tafoya most of the 2005 NFL season. Ryan also became a contributor to ABC's coverage of the 2006 Super Bowl.

CBS Sports/WCBS

Sam Ryan joined WCBS-TV and CBS Sports in June 2006.

For CBS Sports, she serves as a contributor to the Network's NFL pre-game show, The NFL Today, also for the NCAA studio show, The Road to the Final Four and sometimes College Football. In 2007 and 2008, she served as sideline reporter for CBS Sports' coverage of the Final Four and the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship game. Also in 2007, she served as a sideline and pre-game Reporter for the 2007 Super Bowl.

Ryan serves as CBS 2's Sports Anchor for CBS 2 News during the week as she was recently promoted to doing that on February 3, 2009. Previously, she was being a sports anchor at 6 & 11PM on Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as Sports Reporter throughout the week.

In addition to her on-air work, Ryan is a national spokesperson for the March of Dimes, helping to generate awareness of its Prematurity Campaign.

Personal

Ryan is an alumnus of New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury. Her senior project was titled Gender Bias in Sports Broadcasting. Sam also majored in communications at Hofstra University. She and her husband currently reside on Long Island with their two children Nicklaus, 7 and daughter, Jensen, 4.
