Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikipedia Namespace
Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize the Wikipedia: namespace. It's currently rather messy. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page.
Title
WikiProject Wikipedia Namespace
Scope
Not totally clear yet; generally identifing outdated pages, making new ones where necessary, making sure all the pages are properly linked together.

What is the current structure of the Wikipedia namespace?
- Active, often updated pages (like VfD, VP, Cleanup, etc.)
Well, WP:VfD takes up a lot of pages.
There are still many help pages, although they should probably be moved to the Help namespace.
There's all the style guidelines, like Wikipedia:Footnotes.
The Village Pump and the Help and Reference desks. What other chatroom, discussion type pages are there?
- Many pages in the namespace are catagorized under Category:Wikipedia. We should look at that and see what it can tell us.
The various article tags mostly have homes in the namespace, like Wikipedia:Accuracy_dispute, and Wikipedia:NPOV_dispute. But some don't, like Category:Articles that need to be wikified. That should be fixed.
There are a lot of pages that serve very similar purposes, but were created at different times, and so are not well integrated.
There are various defenitions of common Wikipedia jargon that have pages in the Wikipedia namespace, like Wikipedia:Wikipedia_is_not_a_dictionary.
There are lists of Wikipedians, sorted in various ways.
There are various automatically updated activity logs, like the block log.
There are various indexs of pages in the namespace, like Wikipedia:Topical index. But they aren't complete, and their divisions aren't as useful as they should be.
- One problem with Topical index is that it doesn't divide into information vs action pages. VfD is lumped in with Wikipedia:Spam. This is not a good system for now. JesseW 12:03, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Please list other general grouping that you see in the namespace, or particular pages that don't seem to fit. Feel free, of course, to change the above groupings also.
What participants have been doing
(Please describe any templates, lists, or other organizational work you've done in the Wikipedia namespace. We will use these for enouragement, ideas, and guidelines.)

- Template:Page_fixing_tools - a replacement for Template:Resources_for_collaboration which is way out of date.
- Template:HABS, Template:HABS2 - a image source template(and compressed version); HABS is a US gov database of images.
- Template:Article_resources - a central place to list pages which list sources of images, text, or facts.
- I'm currently working on reorganizing Wikipedia:Topical index and dividing up the catagories which are way to large and unwieldy. 13:15, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)~

- Template:Style - for easy reference between the policies and guidance on style.
- User:Jongarrettuk/Better writing guide- a proposed consolidation of guidance on style.

- User:Beland
- Organizing Category:Wikipedia
- Merging redundant pages
- Turning obsolete pages into redirects
- Moving inappropriate content off-site or pointing to better off-site content
- Working on Wikipedia:Auto-categorization/Wikipedia namespace
- Maybe organizing templates
Goals
- A well catalogued Wikispace free from duplication with all related policies, guidance & other pages clearly labelled as interconnected.
- A streamlined, consolidated Wikispace.
- Ensuring no contradiction.
- Libel warnings.
Suggested To Do Items
(If you see something in the Wikipedia namespace that seems to need doing, feel free to list it here. Discussion is fine.)
- Merge Wikipedia:Staying cool when the editing gets hot and Wikipedia:Writers rules of engagement JesseW 12:57, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Merge Wikipedia:Guide to improving articles and Wikipedia:How to write a great article JesseW 15:21, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Make a summary/category page for the "Behavioral guidelines" as listed on the Community Portal, and merge any duplicates Ashibaka tlk (I'll probably manage this myself when I find the free time)
- WP:NPOV is an extremely long and philosophical explanation of why Wikipedia uses NPOV. It's certainly an important explanation and it would be unwise to change the shorthand, but contributors are probably more interested in how to write NPOV than why. I would recommend a WP shorthand for the NPOV tutorial, and also editing other tutorial pages (such as the Community Portal) so that they link to the NPOV tutorial rather than the explanation. Ashibaka tlk (I'll also try to tackle this)
- Organize Category:Wikipedia. Identify redundant pages for possible merger, or similar pages that might be consolidated.
- Merge Wikipedia:Topical index with Category:Wikipedia and Wikipedia:Community Portal.
- Help deal with Wikipedia:Auto-categorization/Wikipedia namespace
- Merge Wikipedia: articles in Category:Articles to be merged
- Update links to documentation, projects, and collaboration pages on Help:Contents.
Maintenance:
- Update Wikipedia:Maintenance
- Update Wikipedia:Cleaning department
- Make sure all maintenance collaboration pages (see Category:Wikipedia maintenance) have clear instructions, a clear purpose, and clearly tell editors how to figure out which collaboration page to use. (Should these link back to a central page to do this instead?)
- Done: [[Wikipedia:Cleanup, Wikipedia:Cleanup process
- Todo: Wikipedia:Pages needing attention, ...
