2010 AFC Challenge Cup

The 2010 AFC Challenge Cup football tournament will be held in a yet to be determined location.[1] The winner will qualify for the Asian Cup 2011. However, if India successfully defends its 2008 title, the runner-up will qualify instead.

Tournament

The finals will see three automatic qualifiers joined by five teams from the qualification phase. Qualification consists of two sections.

  • A playoff between the 19th and 20th ranked entrants (Mongolia and Macau)
  • Four qualification groups for four teams. Each group winner will advance to the finals, along with the best-ranked runner-up. No official indication has been received to suggest how the best-ranked runner-up will be chosen given the withdrawal of Afghanistan - however, the AFC regulations for this tournament[2] suggest that matches against the fourth-placed side in the four team groups should be excluded for the purposes of comparison.
