Emerald Square is a large three-story indoor shopping mall in North Attleborough, Massachusetts with over 170 stores and restaurants. The mall is located off Interstate 295 and US 1 and is one of the largest malls in New England. Anchored by JCPenney, Sears and Macy's in three locations each, it is managed and co-owned by Simon Property Group. It includes many stores such as Hollister Co, Abercrombie and Fitch, H&M, Bath and Body Works, Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, CVS, many sport stores, Verizon and many others unnamed.
History
Originally opened in 1989 as a joint venture of New England Development and The Pyramid Companies, its original anchors included JCPenney, Sears and G. Fox.[1] In 1992 Lechmere opened as a fourth anchor store. The G. Fox store was renamed Filene's in 1993,[2] while the Lechmere was shuttered in 1997 when the entire chain was liquidated. Lord & Taylor bought the former Lechmere location in 1998 and expanded the space by half before opening its own store in 1999.[3]
Meanwhile Pyramid sold its interest in the mall in 1998 to its partner New England Development, which turned around and sold most of its shopping mall portfolio to a joint venture led by Simon Property Group in 1999. Lord & Taylor closed in 2004, with its space being assumed by Filene's, which opened a separate Men's & Home store in 2005. In 2006 the Filene's stores were renamed Macy's, as well as the Home & Men's stores. These were renamed Macy's Home & Men's Store.
