Kim Taeyeon (Hangul 김태연 Hanja 金泰姸) was born on March 9, 1989. Commonly known as Taeyeon (태연), she is a South Korean singer, DJ, and dancer. Taeyeon graduated Jeonju High School on Februry 5th, 2008. Nicknamed 'Umma', 'Kid Leader', and 'Ajhumma', she is the leader of 9-member female group Girls' Generation (소녀시대) formed by SM Entertainment in 2007. Taeyeon and the other eight members of her group debuted on July 19, 2007.

History

Pre-Debut

Taeyeon, like the rest of her group, was professionally trained in singing and dancing. Taeyeon was discovered in the 2004 8th Annual Best Contest winning first place in the contest. In total, Taeyeon was trained for five years and three months.[1]

Debut

After debut, Girl's Generation took the industry in 2008. Their hit song Gee became a huge success. Taeyeon along with the other eight members of her group engaged themselves in a variety of activities. Taeyeon was a DJ on Good Friend Radio along with Super Junior's Kangin until Kangin left on April 19th, 2009[2] Girl's Generation also appeared on numerous variety shows and CFs.
