Plot
The show starts from the first month of college at Redfield Academy with the main gang with Vir, Zeeshan who is also called Zee, his twin Zenia Khan and Ritu who have joined new girl Ragini,the daughter of superstar actress Sushmita Juneja. But Ragini does not reveal who her mother is so she can make true friends and lies that her mother is a K.G school teacher. She is worried whether her friends will accept her for just being Ragini or whether they'll put her on a pedestal for being the daughter of a famous actress. So she tells them various lies to be in their group. For example, she says that she sings horribly even though she is a trained classical singer, she says that she likes hindi class, she has a dead line of 7pm, her bodyguard Chotu is her dad's driver etc.
For fresher's party when Ritu, allergic to peanuts, coudnt sing, Ragini recorded her voice and said to her friends that its not her voice but its her friend's,vidya's voice.
Cast & Characters
Ragini Juneja (Rags)
She is a sensible fresher and the daughter of a famous actress, Sushmita Juneja.She wants to make friends but not with the help of her mom. She does make friends, but does not tell them about her mother because she wants people to like her for who she is. She makes friend with Zenia and Vir, but then lies so that she can be friends with Ritu and Zee too, who initially have a problem with her. She lies to the gang that her mom is a teacher, about her clothes, about her bodyguards, and about many other things, only for their friendship. The Titlis wanted her to be in their group because of her sense of style.She often uses cool words like 'cooliyo', thunder blunder, ohh.. Godly God, awesome blossom, hula guys,how crummy etc. She is a trained pop singer but she lies to her gang that she is a complete non singer.
Zenia Khan
Shweta tripathy plays Zenia khan. She is Zeeshan's twin sister who is a complete chatterbox. She really likes Ragini. She is kind of a tomboy, and is teased for that. She cannot decide whether she is Zeenia "the cool dude", the person she truly is, or Zeenia "the cute girl", the person she wants to be. She is fed up with her brother Zee who is elder to her by just 40 seconds. She likes to use the words of Ragini. For example:- "Coolyo","boo-boo" "crummy" etc. Zenia is the first person who comes to know that Rags is Sushmita Juneja's daughter,she also knows that she wears designer clothes,this is also know by Ritu.Zenia is the crush of Jango...who is in love with her.but Jango is very irritating for her.
Zeeshan Khan (Zee)
Zeeshan is the jester of the lot. Also known as Zee, he mostly talks in rap. He often talks nonsense, and thinks his words are very 'deep' for others to understand. He is Vir's best friend. He says that he is the chuddie buddy of Vir. He always ends up doing something silly & also acts like a baby. He is afraid of Jango and is somehow always in trouble with him, and he has to rely on Zenia or Vir to save him.He likes ragini,but he understands that ragini don't likes him so much.
Vir Mehra
Vir is the most popular boy in school and he loves music .He treasures his guitar the most. He is the cutest dude of Redfield Academy. The Titlis have a crush on him. He takes Science class and hates dramatics. His parents are doctors and want to make him a doctor too. But when he sees blood, he faints. He has a good voice and sings with Ragini at the Fresher's party. He also writes his own lyrics. He is often roped into doing things he normally wouldn't have done,(like going on a date with the titlis) by Zeeshan, his best friend.He is the only person who knows that Ragini can sing.
Ritu Shah
She is a Gujarati girl coming from a joint family who almost always has a reason to whine. She always joins Vir in singing for the freshers Party. She is also known as BBB (Bin Badal Barsaat). And that is because she starts crying for even the smallest reasons. She likes Hindi class a lot.That's why she is the topper of hindi class. She is allergic to peanuts. She is almost simple , cute and caring. She is very possesive about her things and is very thrifty and conservative. She can never say 'no' to people, leading to people taking undue advantage of her.She is now the rival of Divya.
Sushmita Juneja
She's Ragini's mom and a famous singer, famous producer and actress too. She is very hi-fi. She often uses words like pumpkin,strawberry,apple-pie, kishmish, and choco-pie,cheesecake etc. for describing her girl,ragini.
Chotu
Chotu is Ragini's bodyguard. He never speaks and communicates mostly in grunts and head nods. He is very big and scary looking. People are usually terrified on seeing him,specially zee(zeeshan).
Paresh Bhai
He is Ritu's irritating cousin.His dress sense just sucks. The whole gang is simply fed up of him, but they need to bear up with him so that Ritu can come to the Fresher's Party.He had once won in a DHANDIYA competition and is very proud of it.He says 'Yo cool' instead of cool yo.
The 'Titlis'
They are the divas of the college. This group is led by Kimi, who has a crush on Vir. All the three Titlis are spoiled girls of rich parents. They do show off a lot. But then too , they bring a comic part in the series. The most comic act these Titlis is that do even bath with mineral water. The Divas are Kimi,Ria & Tia. the titlis also wear designer clothes and call Zeeshan , Zenia and Ritu "How downmarket".
Ms. D'Souza
She is the new dramatics teacher of the college. She is somewhat strict. But she is very sweet. She speaks in the Hindi Dialect--Bhojpuri,used in Uttar Pradesh. She disapproves of Sushmita Juneja, refering to her as a B-grade, third class actress. Unlike Mandal Sir, she does not show partiality to any student. She and Mandal Sir are constantly at loggerheads over Sushmita Juneja, of whom Mandal Sir is a huge fan. She thinks Susmita and Mandal Sir don't know a thing about acting or dramatics. She reveres Shakespeare.She is rather weak in Hindi, she often ends up in jumbling Hindi words like Bewakoof into bekawoof , Taklif into Talkif and Dhabba into Dabba,goolab into ghoobal. Mr. Mandal usually corrects her.
Mr. Mandal
He is the college hindi teacher who likes Ritu because even she likes hindi. He always speaks in Hindi and keeps correcting Ms. D'souza on her Hindi. He is a huge fan of Ragini's mother, Sushmita Juneja, and shows favoritism to any student connected to her.And he never feels tired to speak about sushmita juneja.
Jango
Jango is a boy who is very irritating for Zenia.Jango has a crush on Zenia,but hates her brother Zeeshan.Often Zeeshan makes him angry & they have a fight.When zeeshan rely to zenia for saving him,zenia talks so sweetly with Jango.Then Jango leaves Zeeshan & offers Zenia for have a cup of milkshake with him,have a coffee with him etc only for empressing Zenia.But Zenia is not impressed,she becomes more unimpressed.Jango is only for bringing a amusement on the show.
Production
The series draws insights from Disney's KidSense 3, an in-depth qualitative study on teens unveiled by the channel earlier this year.
Antoine Villeneuve, senior vice-president and managing director, Walt Disney Television International India, says, "Teens today are wise and wired. Kya Mast Hai Life follows Disney Channel's philosophy of reflecting them, their families, their universe in an entertaining, safe and family inclusive environment ." The channel has commissioned production house SOL to produce the show.
Fazila Allana, managing director, SOL said, "We are excited about producing our first fiction show with a leading teen and family television brand like Disney Channel. SOL is well known for its expertise in non-fiction programming and television events. We look forward to establishing similar success with Kya Mast Hai Life in the fiction genre."
