Season 2009–10 for Hibernian will be their eleventh consecutive season of play in the Scottish Premier League. The SPL season will begin in August 2009.
Pre-season
Hibs have confirmed seven friendly matches for pre-season, as of 3 June 2009, with two of those matches being billed as a "Hibernian XI".[1] Hibs will undergo a short Irish tour, playing against IFA Premiership champions Glentoran, and Shamrock Rovers, who are managed by former Hibs player Michael O'Neill.[2] The game against Preston North End on 1 August is a rematch of a game played in 1887 that was dubbed the Championship of the World by the Football Association and the Scottish Football Association, as both clubs had won their respective national cup competitions.[3] Hibs final match of pre-season will see them play in a testimonial match for Jussi Jääskeläinen, Bolton Wanderers' long-serving Finnish goalkeeper.[4]
