Tony J. Pitcher

Tony J Pitcher is a fisheries scientist, well-known for his work on the impacts of fishing, the management appraisal of fisheries, and how shoaling behaviour impacts fisheries.

He is the founding director of the Fisheries Centre at the University of British Columbia, where he is currently a professor of fisheries.

Career

"In 1989, Pitcher founded the journal Reviews in Fish Biology and Fisheries. In 2000, he founded Fish and Fisheries, a quarterly journal with impact factors in 2006, 2007 and 2008 which were the highest in its field."[3]

"In 2003 Pitcher was awarded the Beverton Medal for lifetime contributions to the field of fish and fisheries by the Fisheries Society of the British Isles.[4] The American Fisheries Society's Distinguished Service Award in 2005 was for work as Chair of the Programmme Committee of the 4th World Fisheries Congress."[5]

"Pitcher has been a visiting Professor at the University of Concepcion, Chile and a member the Advisory Board of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Ploen. Since 2008 he has been a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies. He is currently the Senior Scientific Advisor and Chair of the Advisory Council of the FishSource initiative.[6]"[3]
