RE: OLP

Okay, so how does Naveed fit into the scheme? I see you've noted on the Naveed article that the labels were Sony, Epic and Relativity? Which of these were US? Just Relativity Records or Epic as well? What are the sources on these labels? Should we include Epic and/or Relativity in the Infobox at Our Lady Peace? Thanks for your clarifications. — \`CRAZY`(lN)`SANE`/ (talkcontribs) 06:19, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Are you able to expand on the Naveed label situation? Sources? Thanks. — \`CRAZY`(lN)`SANE`/ (talkcontribs) 06:30, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, this whole label matter is pretty confusing; I appreciate your expertise on this issue. Do you think we should we put Relativity and Epic in their list of labels in the Infobox at the Our Lady Peace article? I assume they were only under these labels during 1994 and 1995, maybe through 1996?. — \`CRAZY`(lN)`SANE`/ (talkcontribs) 06:39, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for the assistance, I've modified the Infobox at Our Lady Peace; you can check it to make sure everything looks right. Also, if you do have any sources on the Naveed labeling and so on that would be great, but if not no worries; I'm just glad you've brought it to attention. — \`CRAZY`(lN)`SANE`/ (talkcontribs) 07:03, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox at Our Lady Peace?

Currently the infobox at OLP says this:

*Labels:

    • Sony (1994–present)
    • ILG (2009–present)

Should this be changed to:

*Labels:

Or how else should this be worded? The proper label for Burn Burn is Coalition Entertainment, but as we've figured out it's distributed by Sony and ILG. How should we arrange the label info in the Our Lady Peace infobox accordingly, in your opinion?. Keep in mind that the last compilation album they released was in 2009, and was under Sony's Legacy label. Also, where are you getting the info. that their compilation album, The Very Best of Our Lady Peace, was under Columbia? Wasn't it just Legacy? Thanks for enlightening me. Also, thanks for all your help with this. — CIS (talk | stalk) 07:22, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, so you said that the 2009 compilation release was under Legacy Recordings and not Columbia? Should we then remove the "Columbia" listing under the "labels" for The Very Best of Our Lady Peace? Just want to be clear on why you listed Columbia there. And so for the OLP infobox, we should probably be listing "Sony (1994–2006)" and "Coalition (2009–present)"? Does that sound the best? What are your suggestions here?. — CIS (talk | stalk) 07:35, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to go ahead and edit the infobox, but I'm wondering what we should do with "Sony Music Canada"? Were any albums really released with that label or was it all Columbia? I'm going to go ahead and remove Sony for now. Let me know. — CIS (talk | stalk) 08:13, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
On second thought... was Naveed perhaps released under simply "Sony" in Canada? Damn, this is confusing. I'll leave Sony out of the mix for now, we'll talk about this when you wake up (unless you're still here now). — CIS (talk | stalk) 08:16, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anastacia

OK i agrre with you about the label thing. About the page, thanx very much! i really try 2 do the best i can... If you could also try to edit & improve the page that would be really great, or maybe if you know others that are interested, because it seems that i'm all by myself LOL .:P :D (MariAna Mimi 11:17, 28 July 2009 (UTC))

Heavy Rotation was only released in the US on ITunes, but she said that there will be a new musical project in November or December so maybe she's going 2 have more luck next time in the US. Until now the second tour only visited Europe and i don't think that it's going 2 change.

Minos EMI

Hello Imperatore, I am glad to help out with that page if you need me. I have some technical knowledge of the business, despite not being clear on everything 100%. I think that the Billboard article can be useful to put somewhere because those were extremely high shares and should be documented. It's a pretty well known fact that EMI is the leader in Greece and I believe it still holds the largest share to date.

As for Sakis, I know that all of his albums hold the Sakis Rouvas Music stamp since 2005's S'eho Erotefthi, so is this not technically a publishing company? I always compared this to Michael Jackson's catalog rights to his material and those of other Sony artists, which he merged to create Sony/ATV Music Publishing. I've often heard this referred to as music publishing, which is why I put SRM under this category. I thought that basically what SRM does was retain the rights to his music catalog, so I'm not really sure under what title it would fit under the page. While this might be more common in recent years, I don't think that I have seen any other artists have this, not even the big ones. SRM actually caries its own logo too, so it might be something worth mentioning, but not sure what to call it exactly. GreekStar12 (talk) 19:26, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thanks for clearing that up. I think I get it, lol. So to clear things up indefinitely (lol), was Michael Jackson one of these special cases of independent publishing? What about the Beatles catalogue that he bought the rights to in the mid 80s; he did not merge with sony until the 90s. So under what exactly did he own the catalog? Considering that Greece is different, does Sakis Rouvas Music own catalog rights in a non-publishing sense? Since it owns the masters, does he not technically own partial rights to his songs (at least since 2005) to promote them how he wants? What exactly are the masters, lol, :p and what is the benefit of him going to all this trouble to finance his recordings? I think Anna Vissi's case is slightly different cuz from what I've heard every time Moda issues a Vissi record they promote themselves as Vanilla Records; however, Vissi international releases are rare so this doesn't really apply to her common Greek work with Sony, whereas with Rouvas it does. You described him as an "independent artist" and I haven't really seen this with any other Greek artists. The only thing that I have seen is vanity labels of Haris Alexiou, Pliatsikas, and Hatzigiannis. Does this make Sakis a "special" (lol) artist by Greek industry standards?? In really simple terms, is he somewhat heading in the Michael Jackson direction??? And, if I were to include this info in his bio, I would say "In 2005, Rouvas launched his ___________ called Sakis Rouvas Music."??? Another detail is that I think Sakis may have been the first Greek artist to trademark their name, releasing official clothing, posters, school supplies, and furniture embelishments (On TV there was something about looking for the most fanatic Rouvas fans and this one guy's house was actually covered in posters and he even had the bed sheets -- scary even to me, lol) In 2005 he became the first artist to launch a doll, and the SR logo appears on these items too as well as all subsequent products, so does this mean that SR goes farther than music? I kind of wish he would just buy EMI and make all of this simpler, lol! GreekStar12 (talk) 21:40, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Come on, cut me some slack, LOL! My area of expertisse happens to be in music theory and genres. I'm finding it slightly difficult grasping the differences between Greece and North America, esp. since the Greek industry has been a little messed up to say the least, as of late. On to the questions...
  • Q1: Was Michael Jackson one of these special cases of independent publishing? What about the Beatles catalogue that he bought the rights to in the mid 80s; he did not merge with sony until the 90s. So under what exactly did he own the catalog? (After merging with Sony, he had the catalogues of Shakira, Ricky Martin, and Eminem, all Sony artists, but he was previously able to buy the cat. of a non-Sony group).
  • Q2:What exactly are masters? If Rouvas owns his material, does he not technically own his catalogue as of 2005 and can now promote it however he wants?
  • Q3:(Since Vissi's case is seemingly different) Is Rouvas' situation by some form "innovative" for the Greek standard and does he stand out as "an independent artist" by Greek industry standards? When I said "following the footsteps of Michael Jackson", I meant expanding into musical entrepeneurship and business, in contrary to being solely a performer.
  • Q4:What should Sakis Rouvas Music be called on his article page?
  • Q5:What about his retail products also bearing the logo; does SR go beyond music and include everything associated with his image/empire.

Thanks! GreekStar12 (talk) 22:13, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I knew this was common for international artists, but not for Greeks. I don't have any of Stavento's music, but I can believe the "indie" status for them as they only gained mainstream popularity recently and it makes sense for a hip hop group, as it is not necessarily a mainstream genre in Greece, although some groups have gained mild success. I guess with Vissi it is a more recent thing, but I still haven't seen this with most other Greek artists, which is why I thought it might be sort of "innovative" for Greece. I haven't seen these other artists' patrimonial companies be as publicized, but that's prob cuz Rouvas' most likely is connected to his brand and the logo is everywhere (only a few artists bare any logos, whether it be for business (Rouvas) or just creativity (Vissi, Vandi, Zina). But then again, I don't know of any other Greek artists who have really trademarked their name like he has. I was asking about the business thing because he recently has expanded into business and now owns a salon chain across Greece with Katia Zygouli and I wondered if this could be seen as a business venture, lol. Thanks again. GreekStar12 (talk) 23:28, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Geffen Records discography (2nd nomination)

I have listed Geffen Records discography for Deletion. --Bsay@CSU[ π ] 20:31, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you run across any other discographies, feel free to list them, if you like, at AfD. the step-by-step process is generally fairly easy to follow. --Bsay@CSU[ π ] 21:54, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
