The Helping Hand Barnstar
For volunteering for the Wikipedia Academy at the NIH, July 16, 2009. Your presence was valuable not only for the help you gave, but also for showing that contributors really do believe in the mission of Wikipedia. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 14:36, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Signpost interview request

Dan, I invite you to answer a set of questions for the Wikipedia Signpost about your board candidacy: Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2009 Board elections/Dan Rosenthal. If you choose to do so, please let me know. I also encourage you to respond by 26 July; interviews with all candidates who respond will be publicized in the 27 July issue of the Signpost.

File:Brother Jed Card.jpg

Hey, I saw that you took a photo of a business card, File:Brother Jed Card.jpg. Taking a photo of copyrighted works does not transfer the copyright to you, so unless you are the copyright owner of the original design of the card, you cannot release that image under a free license. I've tagged the image as lacking permission from the copyright holder. If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact me (or if I have made a mistaken in tagging the image). More information can be found in the message Template:Di-no permission-notice, but I didn't want to template an established editor such as yourself. Thanks for your consideration. -Andrew c [talk] 14:32, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have the permission of the owner of the business card to upload the image in the format of my choice. SWATJester Son of the Defender 21:20, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's great! Would it be possible to e-mail that permission to OTRS? As the template:npd states, Unless a link to a webpage with an explicit permission is provided, or an email from the copyright owner is sent or forwarded to permissions-en -at- wikimedia -dot- org, the image will be deleted after Tuesday, 4 August 2009. Thanks again for working to clear this up. -Andrew c [talk] 21:25, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I can't, unfortunately. As an OTRS representative, I could vouch for myself, but I don't have access to the email account anymore that originally had the permission. If you want, you can temporarily delete the image and I'll attempt to contact Brother Jed and get him to resend it to my new address. SWATJester Son of the Defender 01:04, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Swatjester,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

  • Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
  • It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
  • Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.
  • I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.
2. If you're a law student,
(You don't have to start the club, or even be involved in it; just help direct me to someone who might.)
3. Introduce yourself to me. Law editors on Wikipedia are a scarce commodity. Do knock on my talk page if there's an article you'd like help on.
