Daniel "Danny" Fox (born 29 May 1986 in Winsford, England) is an English footballer who currently plays for Celtic as either a left wingback or a left winger.

Club career

Born in Winsford, Cheshire, Fox learnt his trade at the Everton youth academy but the closest he came to a first team appearance was as an 18-year-old being named on the bench for Everton's home match against Aston Villa in October 2004. He was loaned out to Stranraer, where he played 11 games and helped them secure promotion to the Scottish First Division before his eventual release from Everton in the summer of 2005. Walsall moved quickly to sign Fox, where he made over 100 appearances in all competitions.

Fox had been linked with a move to Leeds United in the January 2008 transfer window. Leeds reportedly had bid of up to £300,000 (including clauses) turned-down by Walsall[1]. However, Coventry City then agreed a fee with Walsall as Fox wished to move up a league, and he joined the Sky Blues on Monday 28 January 2008 in a double transfer deal (with his defensive partner Scott Dann also moving to the Ricoh Arena only 72 hours later), after agreeing personal terms and a passing a medical.

On 16 July 2009, Nottingham Forest tabled a bid believed to be in the region of £2 million to bring him to the City Ground; but the bid was subsequently rejected. On 23 July 2009 Fox was reported to be in in Glasgow having a medical after Coventry City accepted a bid from Celtic.[2] He signed for Celtic on 24 July for an fee of £1.5 million. [3][4]

International career

Fox was called up to the England under-21s squad for the match against Poland under-21s on 25 March 2008 and was selected in the starting XI.[5] He has declared an interest in playing for Scotland, because he qualifies through his grandfather.[6]
