Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Comment
  1. Why does SineBot keep signing stuff I've already signed?
All comments should have a signature that includes both a link to your user page (slakr) and a datestamp (05:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)) (per signatures - internal links). This is most easily generated by placing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your contributions, which makes something like "slakr 05:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)". If you're still having problems after trying that, post a message to slakr.[reply]
  2. I do sign using ~~~~, but the result includes my username as plain text, not as a link.
You have probably changed the format of your signature. Go to "my preferences", then the "User profile" tab, and check the "Signature" field and the "Treat the above as wiki markup" checkbox. If "Treat the above as wiki markup" is checked, then the "Signature" field should contain wikicode, including something like [[User:Your Username|Your Username]]. If "Treat the above as wiki markup" is unchecked, then the "Signature" field should not contain wikicode.
  3. I don't want my comments signed by SineBot. How do I get it to ignore me or my talk page?
Please use one of the opt-out methods listed on its user page.
  4. SineBot forgot to sign something it should have signed.
Usually this happens because the bot isn't sure if it really should sign something, so it defaults to not signing it (e.g., in cases of complex edits). It does this to avoid being annoying. Other times, a comment might be made when the bot is down for maintenance, so the bot simply never sees it.
  5. SineBot signed something that it genuinely should not have signed.
Please let slakr know-- especially if you think it's not a one-time thing.

HELP:Signature

I'm not sure why my signature is not working properly. I do add DonnaKP 20:47, 30 September 2009 (UTC) after all my comments but apparently it's not working. What could I be doing wrong? Do I need to add parenthesis on either side? DonnaKP 20:47, 30 September 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by DonnaKP (talkcontribs)

I figured it out. In preferences, I had type DonnaKP in the box next to "Sign my name exactly as shown." which I had checked. Now that I have unchecked the box, it's working properly. The signature icon you included on your message doesn't match with the one I see. Is it because I am working from the Beta site? DonnaKP (talk) 21:26, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Open letter to SineBot

Dear SineBot:

I know that you are a program floating in the wikiMatrix, and that you were not given the intelligence that you need. Although polite, you are annoying.

If signatures are sooo important (and I agree traceability is a good thing to have), why not make the god Wikipedia to automatically sign every new comment in the discussions? Furthermore, and just creeping the scope a bit, why not putting a control on the discussion pages that allows users to hide or show the full signature?

I hope we can reach some sort of agreement with the gods living in the wikiOlympus, and get this resolved. As much as you are obsessed with signing everything, I'm obsessed with robots with the intelligence of a fly that edit my comments. For that, I prefer human intervention.

Regards to you and your master,

Luis
