"A Little Less Conversation" is a song (written by Mac Davis and Billy Strange) originally recorded by Elvis Presley for the movie Live a Little, Love a Little in 1968. It was released by RCA Victor as a single in September 1968. The initial release reached #69 on the Top 100 Billboard Singles charts. It was recorded on March 7, 1968 at Western Recorders, Hollywood, CA. This session marked the first time Elvis recorded with a live orchestra in the studio. It was first released on the RCA Camden budget label LP "Almost In Love" in November 1970.

Different versions released

The single version was take 16 and was also used for the soundtrack of the film Live a Little, Love a Little. The version released later on the album is take 10, which is 1 second longer in duration. The reason for this is unknown, but RCA did that several times on different songs for other budget releases.

The song was also featured in Bolt and Ocean's 11.

Re-recording for the ELVIS television special

In June 1968, Presley re-recorded the song for the soundtrack of Elvis Presley's '68 Comeback Special, though this track was not used in the program and was officially released by RCA in the 1990s. The initial idea for the show went through many changes during the recording process. One idea was to have Elvis sing a medley of some of his movie songs for one of the staged segments of the show. However, it was decided to use more contemporary songs and so "A Little Less Conversation" was chosen. The track was recorded on June 23, 1968. Elvis recorded a vocal overdub at a later date along with backup vocals from The Blossoms.[1]

"A Little Less Conversation"
Song

In 2002, the song recorded for the TV Special and not the original version, was remixed by Junkie XL for the NIKE Football World Cup advertising campaign and went on to become a Number 1 hit in over 20 countries.[citation needed] At about the same time, a compilation of Presley's U.S. Number 1 chart hits, entitled ELV1S 30 #1 Hits, was being prepared for release. At the last minute, "A Little Less Conversation" (Remix Version) was added as the album's 31st track just before its release in October 2002.
