Goom Radio is an Internet radio service, that is based in the New York metropolitan area. With a wide and diverse range of music and DJs, Goom provides premium radio in high quality 'G-Sound'. Users can also create and customize their own stations with MyGoom, based upon their taste(s) and preference, which can then be shared through various network web communities , mobile applications, and Wi-Fi radios . Goom Radio is a free service that is available world-wide.

History

Goom Radio was originally founded in France in 2008 by Roberto Ciuerlo and Emmanuel Jayr. The U.S. team was comprised of CEO Rob Williams (formerly of Clear Channel), who left in September of 2009 [1], and Chief Sales Officer, Drew Hilles (founder of dMarc Broadcasting)[2], who left in December of 2009.

Funding

Goom Radio is funded from the sale of online streaming and display advertising in addition to financial backing from venture capital firms, Wellington Partners, Partech International, and Elaia Partners. In Spring of 2008, Goom raised $16 million dollars for its funding.[3]

MyGoom

Registered users can pick from Goom's database library and select music for their own personal playlists. Other features include programming shows into personal stations, creating blogs, and sharing stations with multiple networking sites.

Radio Personalities

Besides delivering listener content, Goom offers "real music professionals, rather than algorithms, [to] choose the music on the central station"[4]. Interviews with musicians and live radio shows are also available.

Applications for iPhone and iPod Touch[5][6] have launched as of November 2009. Service for Blackberry mobile phones will be available soon.

Users can receive updates on their favorite musicians, concerts, and information about undiscovered/unsigned artists through Twitter[7], Facebook[8], and MySpace[9].
