Selena Gomez & the Scene

Selena Gomez & the Scene (often stylized as Selena Gomez ♥ the Scene) is an American pop band that formed in 2009. The band consists of Selena Gomez on vocals, Ethan Roberts on guitar, Joey Clement on bass, Greg Garman on drums, and Dane Forrest on keyboards.

Band

Beginnings

During an interview with Jocelyn Vena, of MTV in August 2008, Selena Gomez said of her future music career that: "I'm going to be in a band — no Selena Gomez stuff. I'm not going to be a solo artist. I think that I don't want my name attached to it. I will be singing, and I'm learning drums and playing electric guitar." Gomez along with her band, The Scene, released their debut studio album, Kiss & Tell on September 29, 2009. The album debuted at number nine on the U.S. Billboard 200 with sales of over 66,000 copies in its first week of release.[1]

Selena has said in several interviews (including one with Z100 New York[2]) that she hand-picked The Scene during a long, exhausting audition process. Selena said it was worth it, though, because she has a great band. However, soon after joining the band, keyboardist Nick Foxer was replaced by Dane Forrest.

Kiss & Tell (2009–present)

Kiss & Tell, the band's debut studio album was released on September 29, 2009 by Hollywood Records. Gomez worked with several writers and producers on the album including Gina Schock of the Go-Go's. Musically, the album has a combination of different styles, prominently synthpop, and dance elements.[4]

The album debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200.[1] Sales for the second week were 25,000.[5] It debuted at number twenty-two on the Canadian Albums Chart.[citation needed]

Gomez confirmed that she co-wrote one song on the album, "I Won't Apologize." The lead single "Falling Down" was released on August 21, 2009. The music video premiered after the world premiere of Gomez' TV-movie Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie on August 28, 2009. It peaked at #82 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and at #69 on the Canadian Hot 100[6]. The second single from the album is "Naturally" released December 11, 2009 along with a music video for digital download. The music video was shot on November 14, 2009 and premiered on Disney Channel following the premiere of Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation on December 11, 2009. It has debuted at #39 and later peaked at #29 in the Billboard Hot 100 and has thus far peaked at #18 in the Canadian Hot 100. It is the band's biggest hit to date (having gone Gold) and first top 40 hit beating out their first single "Falling Down".[7]

They are currently finishing their House of Blues 2010 Tour to promote the album.[8] Gomez and her band performed "Falling Down" on Dancing with the Stars season nine. The band also performed their second single, "Naturally" on The Ellen DeGeneres Show,[9][10] "Naturally" & "More" at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest[citation needed] and "Falling Down" and "Naturally" at the 2009 Teletón in Mexico.[11]

"All Wrapped Up Volume 2"

Selena Gomez & The Scene contributed to Disney's "All Wrapped Up Vol. 2." The EP includes the band's cover of "Winter Wonderland" as well as Christmas covers by other successful artists. [12]

"Naturally (The Remixes)"

In 2010, The Scene released an EP containing remixes of their hit single "Naturally." The EP features remixes by Dave Aude, Ralphi Rosario, and Disco Fries, as well as the original track. The Disco Fries remix has gotten mixed reviews, with some people saying that it is better than the original and others saying that it isn't necessary.[13]

Future Projects

The Scene is currently working on their second studio album and it will have a more Reggae sound.[14] Gomez said in an interview with Z100 New York[15] that the next album will feature some songs that did not make it onto the first album and that her band will be much more included in the second album. In an interview at their Kiss & Tell album release party, Gomez said that she would like the band's name to officially become just The Scene or maybe Selena & the Scene later on.[citation needed] She also indicated that the band will be going on a world tour in the future.[citation needed]
