The Boeing Phantom Works F/A-XX is a futuristic concept for the US Navy's F/A-18E/F Super Hornet replacement in 2025. It is planned to incorporate sixth generation stealth capability. The aircraft is to be operated with or without a pilot, depending on the role. According to the Phantom Works, the new striker jet is to perform stealth, strike, air superiority, ground support, precision bombing and reconnaissance.

Design & Development

Scientists and Engineers of the Boeing Phantom Works have taken a look into the future of the US Navy, and specified a very advanced sixth generation stealth striker, which could avoid detection at both high and especially low altitudes, in which it could cause major damage to the enemy without being seen. Since some roles prove uncapable with a piloted airplane in past designs, the new aircraft is also planned to be present in an unmanned configuration. Even though the project is only in the research stage, the designers have a good impression in what it will look like and it's demensions. It is planned to replace the US Navy F/A-18E/F Super Hornets in 2025 following the retirement of the F-16.

The aircraft is intended to enter production in the early 2020's. The planned armament is to be mostly laser-based weapons, as well as AA and AG guided & unguided ordnance, laser-guided bombs, reconnaissance pods and other state-of-the-art weaponry. The design is to be very aerodynamic, with swept wings and no tail fins.
