Joel Aguilar (born July 2, 1975) is a Salvadoran football referee who currently resides in San Salvador. He has been a full international referee for FIFA since 2001.

He was selected as a referee for the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada, where he refereed the matches between the United States and South Korea on June 30, 2007, New Zealand and Gambia on July 5, 2007 and Austria and Chile on July 8, 2007.

He was preselected as a referee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.[1]

Aguilar was involved in controversy in the 2009 Gold Cup quarterfinal match between Canada and Honduras. Agulilar awarded a penalty kick to Honduras for an alleged foul by Paul Stalteri upon Walter Martínez. Martínez attempted a bicycle kick next to Stalteri, who was adjudged by the referee to have pulled down Martínez. The Canadian Press reported that a replay showed Martínez had been holding onto Stalteri's shirt as he attempted the overhead kick.[2] Honduras won the match 1-0, and Aguilar's decision was contested by the Canadian players.
