Very hard to believe the Germans still have this badge. It was a major decoration used by the SS during the 1930s and many Waffen-SS soldiers wore the badge on thier uniforms during World War II. I imagine since there was no swastika, its continued usage must not be that of a big deal. -OberRanks (talk) 20:56, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why SS?
The Sportabzeichen has been created in 1912!
Take a look into the german Wikipedia where you'll find sources.
It is more of a civilian award which one can win after meeting the requirements.
In the military it is sometimes required to obtain a certain military award or as a requrement to be permitted to training courses.
So thats NOT a Nazi or an SS invention and a large number of germans try to get the Sprotabzeichen or a higher level of the Sprotabzeichen each year.
