Now That's What I Call Music or Now was first released in 1983. It was the very first Now That's What I Call Music! album to be released, and went on to spawn a large number of further "Now!" albums in the UK, and later in other countries. Becoming one of the biggest albums of the year, it became one of only a few compilation albums to reach number one on the UK albums chart, staying there for four consecutive weeks and five in all. It also went 3x Platinum, selling over 900,000 copies.

The album was originally released on vinyl, cassette and a companion VHS tape which contained music videos to some of the songs on the album, but on 12 January 2009, it was released on double CD for the first time, as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the series' inception.[1]
