This link to BBC coverage suggests that the 'killing machine' reference may be wrongly attributed here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/811167.stm 194.105.164.99 (talk) 15:53, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Appeal
"Niimi refused to enter a plea and received a death sentence, which he did not appeal".
well, apparently he did appeal: "Japan's supreme court has rejected an appeal against the death sentence for a senior member of the doomsday cult behind the 1995 deadly sarin nerve gas attack on the Tokyo subway. The ruling means Tomomitsu Niimi, 45, will be the 10th member of the Aum Supreme Truth cult to face execution after exhausting all legal appeals." http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/01/19/2796252.htm?section=justin
i am reluctant to edit as i really don't know anything about this story, but this article is a little hagiographic in feel, for someone who is, as far as i can tell, a mass murderer and cold-blooded assassin.
i hope somebody who is better acquainted with the facts can sort it out. this sort of thing discredits wikipedia if left in this state. Deoxyribonucleic acid trip (talk) 13:28, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
To me, it also seems that he appealed: "The ruling marked the eighth death penalty the court has handed down to an Aum defendant. The judge said Niimi "willfully participated in the crimes, and actively fulfilled his orders. As a result, 26 people were deprived of their lives." Niimi immediately filed an appeal." http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20020627a1.html
