History

Besti flokkurinn was founded by Jón Gnarr – Icelandic actor, comedian and writer in the year of 2009. The party has from the beginning admitted that it will not honour any of the promises given prior to elections and been very outspoken about their corruption.

Among its original goals was to satirize common themes in Icelandic politics and mimicking the standard phrases, idioms and jargon used by Icelandic politicians.

Since its founding Besti flokkurinn has developed into a full grown political party with its own independent agenda. The theme song of Besti Flokkurinn is Simply the best by Tina Turner. Prior to the 2010 election the party published a localized version of the song with new lyrics. Music video with the new lyrics was published on YouTube.

Election 2010

The party's first endeavor in politics is presenting a list of candidates for the local election in Reykjavík in 2010.
