Beto, artistic name of Albertino João Santos Pereira, (December 28, 1967 – May 23, 2010) was a Portuguese singer. He was born in Peniche, started to sing with 5 years old, and settled in Torres Vedras when he was 17 years old. Beto founded the music group Tanimaria in 1992, which performed in Xafarix, a bar in Lisbon. In 2000, he recorded with Rita Guerra a project which resulted in the album Desencontros, presented by both in many shows across the country. His solo debut album only came in 2003, Olhar em Frente, which reached platinum. Influência had similar distinction in 2005. It was followed by Porto de Abrigo and Por Minha Conta e Risco. A number of his songs appeared in several Portuguese soap operas throughout the early-2000s. In 2009 Farol records edited the collection O Melhor de Beto, a best of. Beto was found dead at an hotel room in Caldas da Rainha on May 23, 2010. A stroke was reported to be the cause of death. Beto is survived by his son Tiago. Among his best known and most successful themes are: Memórias Esquecidas[1] and Brincando Com O Fogo (with Rita Guerra).[2]
