The movie revolves arround Madhavan Nair who unknowingly kills a teenager and his eldest son Raja take the blame and is sentnced to jail for five years . After returning from jail Raja moves to Madhurai and there he resecuse the life of the daughter of Maniannai, the village land lord and then Raja turns his right hand and he is named as Madhurai Raja ... Years later turned to be Known as Pokkiri Raja. The movie begins with a flash back story of two brothers Raja ( Mammootty ) and Surya ( Prithviraj ). Raja and Surya enter into a fight with a rival gang and gets involved in certain scuffles with the gang. Raja elopes to Madurai and later becomes a very popular don there. With a walrus moustache, broken English and his travel in BMW, Raja tries to create laughs among the audience.

The first half of the story deals with Surya, Raja's brother. Soundtrack

The movie has five songs, in these one is theme music of Pokkiri Raja featuring Mammootty.

The soundtrack for the film released on 8 April 2010.

Several music sites gave the music 4 out of 5 stars saying that Pokkiriraja is easily one of the most complete scores by JassieGift after For the people.

The song 'Kettile Kettile' and 'Manikinavin Kothumbuvellam' song were first accepted by the people. But after the great success of the movie that 'Chenthengil' and 'Mukkutikavan' songs were become hit.In these 'Chenthengil ponalaneer' was the chartbusting song, in which Mammootty was dancing in a freak style costumes with Prithviraj.

Songs 1. Song: Manikinavain

Impressively sung by K J Yesudas and Sujatha, the song is a winner form the word go. This is one of the best songs rendered in the sound of Yesudas in the recent times. The lyrics by Kaithapram also are admirable with very direct, simple lines that are easy on ears. This melody song is very well orchestrated to ferry the listener to a different globe and stand apart from normal Jassie numbers, putting forward an irresistible piece for repeat hearing.

2. Song: Kettille, Kettille

Sung by Vijay Yesudas, Prithviraj and Ridhya, the song is another fast number .Set in that typical Mathura beat, the singers has infused the energy for this foot tapping number in typical heavy Tamil’ish orchestration. Prithviraj as a singer is most admirable in this song who matches with Vijay Yesudas in every count. Pictured as a marriage song with Mammootty and Prithviraj dancing for its tunes, the song is already a chart topper. The song is repeated with the voice of Anwar replacing Prithvi in the repeat tracks. Both the versions are good and fine.

3. Song: Manickya Kallil

Jassie, Malathy and Ananthu sing this feverish number patterned like dance songs of Vijay films. The composer himself gets behind the mike and enthralls with this boisterously voiced hip-shaking track. The song has interesting deviations in the middle with soft melody interludes. Malathy’s voice appears a bit jarred, but Ananthu in the opening bit is excellent. The ‘dhol’ beat pattern music makes a pertinent set of rhythmical moves all through, to deliver out rapturous festive feel on the floors.

4. Song: Chenthengil Ponnilaneeru

Renjith, Anwar, Suchithra, Ridhya croons this foot tapper. The song has the right mood of fun and the racy beats add to the effect. A sort of techno music that beats the ramp floor is the characteristic backup in the entire track with singers dominating the tracks

’Pokkirir Raja’ is that much expected comeback from Jassie Gift, who seems to have done an excellent job in setting tracks that match a festive mood. Altogether an album meant for dance, Jassie Gift can list this album among his list of good ones. Presented by East coast, the album also contains some good songs for the movie ‘Navagathan’ set to music by Britto Simon.

Reception

The movie overwhelmingly positive reviews from the critics and from several movie sites. And the movie become biggest chart buster of malayalam. The Mammootty fans got a very satisfactory movie from the new come director Vyshakh. The movie got 11.2 crores from it's first two weeks run and declares the movie Megahit.

The movie review site indiaglitz says the movie must watch and rediff.com gave the movie rating 4/5.The now running site gave the movie was astonishes by the squandering of talent in a film as this that is unpardonable. You have two of the best actors in business, a whopping supporting cast, a sizzler actress as the female lead, an amazing technical crew, and what not? And you go ahead and tell a story that resembles sugarcane pulp, beaten to death and with all the sap squeezed out to the last drop.

There are two apparently warring families in some godforsaken village where there is a huge furor every time the temple festival comes up. Raja, (Mammotty) the eldest of the two sons of the village teacher (Nedumudi Venu) gets involved in one such ruckus and flees never to return. The younger son Surya (Prithviraj) meanwhile keeps missing his brother like hell (he even sings a couple of lines about good ol' bro while shaking a leg with Shwetha Menon) when he is not chasing the City Commissioner's daughter Aswathy (Shreya). They meet of course. Just don't ask me where and how.

It's a daunting task to do an analysis of a film as this, for where does one start? Ah yes! The script of course. How many times more would we be made to sit through this story, the exact setting, the Xeroxed characters and the very same everything else? How many more times would we see the eldest son sacrificing everything and ending up a thug? How many more times would we be able to endure familial feuds?

The dialogues are what actually take the cake. So we have Raja making a loud proclamation to Surya that its just not enough that he builds up muscles; he needs to learn to act as well. An ever so obedient and humble Surya retorts that he's just a kid, and that by the time he grows up to be his brother's age, he would win an Oscar and nothing less.

When Surya takes a good hard look at Raja's traditional attire before hopping on to a dance club, Raja roars and asks if he has to take style lessons from the young chap. And of course we have Raja's sidekicks firmly asserting that his fans would take no insult lying down; be it from his younger brother or someone else.

The film that lasts for about two and a half hours remains focused on Surya for the first hour, when he gets to deliver all that he can, pack the punches, sing a song and finally get entrapped in a no-way-out spot. Along comes Raja with about a fifty cars following him, like they have just stepped out of a car showroom for a test drive. Raja shoves the kid to a corner and takes up the reigns, and believe it or not, it rains.

Mammootty saves this film from not being a total washout with his amazing screen presence. Which is to say, that the first one hour without him is the toughest to endure. Prithvi looks well-groomed, but I doubt if this film would do anything worthwhile for his surging career. Shreya is gorgeous of course, but all she has to do is to look bewildered at the brothers in action, and that she does.
