Request for feedback regarding, err, feedback

I hope you will comment on Feedback Patrol. I'm concerned that Wikipedia is not doing a good job helping out new contributors - obviously, you are part of the solution, but I'm flailing about trying to find a way to improve the situation.--SPhilbrickT 15:29, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will do so, thanks for the barnstar! That was completely unexpected! Chevymontecarlo 16:21, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging a page for deletion

{{helpme}}

How can I do this? I want to tag this page for deletion because I think it has nobility problems, it needs to be Wikified, and the title of the article is bad. There are also no categories, and there are also some minor POV problems. If it is considered to be too minor to be tagged for deletion what else can I do to alert other editors and get the article improved or deleted. Thank you. Chevymontecarlo 20:07, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well it seems someone else has already put the article up for deletion at articles for deletion. For future references though, the reasons for which an article can be deleted can be read at Wikipedia:Deletion policy and the deletion process is explained at Wikipedia:Deletion process, some tools such as Twinkle can be used to speed up tagging of articles for deletion. - EdoDodo talk 06:22, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a description to one of your pictures

Hello, I've tried to add a description to a picture you've uploaded - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:G10countries.png#Summary. However I'm still unsure of the article's subject so if I have got it wrong please correct it. Thank you. Chevymontecarlo. 17:02, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for answering my query on external link placeholders at the Feedback forum. I think I understand now.--Ykraps (talk) 15:16, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Are articles supposed to contain recipes?

{{helpme}} This article has a recipe on it and I was wondering - are articles supposed to have recipes on them? Personally I thought it was a bit non-encylopedic and an external link to a recipe would be better, but are there any guidelines concerning content like this in articles? Thanks. Chevymontecarlo 19:21, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That article, ughh... no, per WP:NOT. Remove it. fetch·comms 19:28, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(EC)

WP:NOTGUIDE covers it.  Chzz  ►  19:31, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I removed the recipe, which had a book as a reference, so I moved the details to the 'Further reading' section. Thanks for the links! They always help me and expand my WP knowledge :D Chevymontecarlo 19:33, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
@Fetchcomms: I tried.  Chzz  ►  21:27, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Are articles supposed to contain poems?

{{helpme}} A similar sort of question to the last one I asked, is this article supposed to contain a poem? Is there a policy that says otherwise? Thanks for any help and I apologise if this has the same answer as the last question I asked. Chevymontecarlo 19:19, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's a redlink, but generally no unless it's directly relevant to the article subject. As in, it should not be JUST a poem, but if the article is about a poem and having it there is useful to the reader in whatever section it's describing, it ought to be OK. fetch·comms 19:22, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Sorry about the link :( If I can fix it, can you please look at it and comment? I am not sure about whether or not it should stay or not still... Chevymontecarlo 19:25, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If the poem is out of copyright (public domain), and fairly short, then it's okay to use it in an article about the poem. However that article seems contain just the poem, which doesn't make a very good article but is still allowed (I think). - EdoDodo talk 19:29, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I think perhaps I will keep the poem there, because it's quite old and without the poem the article would be a tiny stub. Chevymontecarlo 19:30, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see we have some new participants in WP:FEED. Welcome. This forum is often understaffed, so anyone that wants to help out is welcome.

Almost everyone who asks for help is new to Wikipedia, and many do not know how to post a link to their draft article. When they don't we usually find it for them, and simply comment on it, sometimes including a proper link in the response.

If you don't know how to find it, here's how (this assumes you have Navigation popups installed; if you don't you will want it, Go to Preferences, Gadgets and look for "Navigation Popups")  :

  1. If they know enough to sign their user name, you can hover the mouse over their name, and find "contributions". In that page, it should be easy to find
  2. If they don't sign and sinebot signed for them, it is even easier, because sinebot leaves a link to their contributions in the sig.
  3. If sinebot hasn't signed yet, then click on the history of the Feedback page, it is usually easy to figure out who asked the question, and there will be a link to contributions next to their name. (The only exception is an IP, but an IP can't create a page. If they created it with a user name, but are now posting as an IP, you have to ask for their user name)--SPhilbrickT 21:09, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bulleted lists

Hi, I've seen that in a number of articles on locomotive wheel arrangements, you've converted a plain list into a bulleted list, as here - please note that it's unnecessary to add a forced line break <br /> to each line; a normal line break followed by an asterisk does the whole job. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:22, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for telling me. The forced line break formatting was already there so I figured I'd just leave it. I'm sorry that someone has to change it all again - I'll try and help out myself. Chevymontecarlo 16:41, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AFC

WP:AFC needs help.

We are moving 70-odd articles that were tagged as {{move draft}} into the AFC process, and we need help to process them.

If you are not familiar with how to review AFCs, please join #wikipedia-en-afc and get help there from experienced AFCers. Please do help; even if you just review one or two - try to fix; make live, or say why not, etc etc.

Greatly appreciated.  Chzz  ►  22:46, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Americana

Hi, Thanks for the review of Americana (1983 film). I would love to add more references (I'm all about the references.) The subject isn't vast enough to have a lot available, but at least the few that I have are varied.

Can you remove the new article tag on the top of the page? I don't think that I can since I am the creator (of the article that it, tee hee).--Ishtar456 (talk) 20:50, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have since done so. Chevymontecarlo - alt 12:13, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

agRince: re feedback archived in section 27 - thanks

hello

and sorry for not seeing your helpful comments .. re moving feedback to archive.. and hence seeing the helpful feedback.. truth is i just got tired of dealing with all of it, ie the whole process of trying to figure out what is acceptable to an ever shifting panel of judges.. none of whom i imagine knows an ounce of what i do about the topic.. i'm afraid i naively thought if you have some useful knowledge and want to make it available to others wiki would be the obvious way to do so. and i am sure it is for some topics.. many thanks for your time again

Kung Fu Bear

Re Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Kung Fu Bear -- the author of the article did add links to reliable sources including CNN and CBS News after the initial review. Can you review and confirm? I think the reliable sources objection should be dropped -- there may be other reasons to keep the article on hold, but the sources seem good. Tim Pierce (talk) 18:53, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have added another comment to the article. I don't think there are enough reliable references in the article yet. Chevymontecarlo 19:07, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Tim Pierce (talk) 19:46, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:Sami70/International Organization for Peace, Care and Relief

Hi Chevymontecarlo , Thanks for your feedback on The International Organization for Peace, Care and Relief 's page that I just requested, your notes where helpful and I tried my best to work on them .

  • As for the 'Objectives' section I worked on making it more neutral " Sorry for the previous introduction " .
  • As for references for the 'Objectives' section , I added the only reference that is avilable and it's from the organization's official website , Is it OK ?

I realy appreciate your help, and hope that my flaws can be corrected.

Cheers ..... --Sami70 (talk) 13:33, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think that if possible you should try and look for a few more references for the section if you can. If you find a site that isn't useful enough to be a reference but could be useful to the reader, I recommend perhaps adding it to the 'External links' section. Official websites aren't the best places for reliable references - ideally it should be a website that is independent of the article's subject. However it's good that you've got at least something there, so don't remove it. Please try and add a few more independent websites to use as references to the article if you can. User:Wendyfables/Scotland Manufacturing

Good afternoon. I am just following up on the message posted to the Request for feedback for the Scotland Manufacturing page. I made the suggested changes, which I thank you for your input on, and would like to get this live and moved to its own page. Please review my changes and let me know what my next steps are.

Thank you in advance - Wendyfables (talk) 19:30, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think the article is a it better than it was in the past, but if you can try adding categories to the article, so it can be listed with similar articles. I think that you should maybe start with something like or something like that. You can search for other categories and add them to the bottom of the article, where there will appear on a bar automatically. I think it will be soon good enough to be moved into the main space. If you have any more questions regarding moving your article to the main space, please ask at the Wikipedia Help Desk, as I am unsure with the process involved with moving articles to the main space. Chevymontecarlo 04:42, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Great feedback, much appreciated! I added some categories to the page, as well as more items to the "see also" list. Let me know if this takes care of the pending flag issue. Thanks again! 24.172.221.186 (talk) 16:35, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Grab some glory, and a barnstar

Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 14:40, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
