Question/suggestion

I congratulate you on the content and accuracy and unbiased nature of your edits on the Pattaya page and the Prostitution in Thailand pages. You obviously have been there a bit and I'd like to suggest that under the Social Assistance organizations on the Prosittution page that you include some writeup on both the Fountain of Life Center and Fr Ray Street Kids (now called Children's Home) projects. I'm involved in both, rather favorably biased and try to ignore making additions to subjects when my bias my show (shine) through. thx grenachx

Thank you for your comments. I am a longtime resident of Pattaya. I met Father Ray several years ago, and have visited the Home. Can you tell me specifically what the Home and Fountain of Life Center do regarding this topic so I can include them under Organizations? Keep up the good work you are doing in Pattaya. รัก-ไทย (talk) 05:54, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Children's Home

The Children's Home was originally called the Street Kid's Home. It was on Pattaya Klang almost opposite Foodland. Its original purpose was to provide a place where the young runaways either male or female could find relief from the abusive pimps and vultures that preyed upon these kids who arrived thinking of Pattaya as a place to earn "lots of rice" before returning to their families in Northern Thailand. Our best success was with children before than had been sucked into hard core prostitution but we were successful with some of these kids also. The newest facility which you say you have visited is a lot more complex than that. Take a look at www.rsmall.net/visit which details part of my recent visti back to Pattaya and attempts to provide a connection between the multifaced Children's projects that exist today. The Fr Ray website is useful also www.fr-ray.org or www.frray.us (mine)

The Fountain of Life Center

The Fountain of life Center was started by Sister Michelle of the Good Shepard Sisters (now Mother Michelle) a long time ago. It originally was strictly a spot which presented the possibilities of an alternative lifestyle for the bar girls of Pattaya. The Fountain of Life center has their own website www.fountainoflifepattaya.com/ which you can look at for general information but the website focuses on their work with children (I assume because talking about assisting bar girls is not a well received concept). But the work they do for bar girls is really impressive when you understand it and really offers the girls a chance at a different life. To my knowledge, it was the only facility at that time that recognized the problem and offered a fair solution. "Don't preach or moralize, just offer alternatives and /or just a respite from the bar scene. If we can't covince them (the girls) to do something else at least we can teach them how to bargain better and protect themselves" I'll offer a brief humorous story although off topic slightly. 20+ years ago, the girls were offered chances to attend classes in hair styling and beauty in the hope that they could move to a better profession. I beleive it was Sister Michelle that wanted to also offer some education in computers. I was quite honored to be asked to assist with that program. (there were a lot of male "volunteers" who wanted "to help" so males were forbidden access to the center) and I was allowed into the otherwise male restricted facility in order to do some teaching and work on maintaining their few computers. Obviously I got to know a lot of the ladies and was referred to as Adjan Ron (if you live there you can probably correct the spelling of Adjan "revered teacher". After about a year, my girlfriend from the US came for her first visit and I took her on a motorcycle tour down Beach Road (there was no Walking Street then). Too say the least, it was not well received by my girlfriend Judy that from every bar a girl would hop out and yell "Hello Adjan Ron" Alas I could not protest with effect but luckly Judy met Sister Michelle and everything was eventiually ironed out.

I hope this provides some insight. Lasly if you need an introduction at either facility, I can arrange for someone to meet with you. Living there you probably don't need this but ask if it would help.

Request

You have been referred to me as a possible expert in English language. If your time permits, and you are such an expert, please review the following article,Duumvirate. I am not an expert, however from my lay perspective the article seems to elaborate on the definition beyond any I have so far been able to find. I am concerned these elaborations may be original research. The article has no references and has been tagged as such since 2008. I placed an expert tag on the article and a comment to the talk page of the article. If you have a response please provide it at that location.My76Strat (talk) 01:34, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Grab some glory, and a barnstar

Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 15:17, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you? If so, we're offering an award to the person who brings in the most referrals. Just notify ɳorɑfʈ Talk! or Diannaa TALK of who your referrals are. Once again, thanks for your support! --Diannaa TALK 01:22, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
