Dance Academy is an Australian teen oriented drama series produced by Werner Film Productions in association with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and ZDF.[1]

On 2 July 2010, the ABC renewed the show for the second season.[2]

Plot

The events in the show are primarily seen from the perspective of Tara Webster, a new student at the National Academy of Dance. She, along with fellow students Katrina Karamakov, Ethan Karamakov, Samuel Lieberman, Abigail Armstrong and Christian Reed, will learn the ins and outs of ballet.[3][4] Season two will see Tara return to the Academy for her second year and the hope of representing Australia in a major ballet competition.[2]

Alicia Banit Kat Karamakov a flippy girl who lived with his roommate Sammy. She is a popular dancer in the school
Dena Kaplan Abigail Armstrong a simple girl who trying to be a popular in Dance Academy, she is the roommate of Tara. She was trying to discourage Tara so that she will going back home. When Tara discover that she has a evil side Tara trying to approach her to make their relation makes good but she never commit as she declare that she didn't Tara since the arrival.
Tom Green Sammy Lieberman The nerd guy who trying to be a conservatives speaking of all girls.
Jordan Rodrigues Christian Reed An Asian beauty guy who trying to live normal in Australia.
Tim Pocock Ethan Karamakov a handsome guy in school who became Tara's first crush.

Production

Dance Academy is produced by Joanna Werner's film company Werner Films Productions in association with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Screen Australia, Film Victoria, Film New South Wales and ZDF for Germany.

Casting and filming

Casting began in early 2009 in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. All cast members had to be skilled in drama and dancing and had to cope with Australia's best choreographers. Filming began on 13 July 2009 and wrapped in early November.[5]Series 2 is planned to be filmed at the end of January 2011.[6]

Premiere

The series was originally announced to premiere in mid 2010 on ABC3, however, like Dead Gorgeous, the premiere was pushed to ABC1 on 31 May 2010 and ABC3 on 6 June 2010.[7]

The Australian Broadcasting Company has released the first DVD of Dance Academy, featuring the first five episodes. Additional DVDs will be released in later months.
