Paul Nguyen (born 1980) is a Vietnamese-Canadian film director, and producer. He is an award-winning community activist and creator of Jane-finch.com.

Nguyen earned his Bachelor of Arts in Film from York University in 2004.

Media and political career

Advocacy

Nguyen has used his media footing to offer his opinion or act as an advocate for various issues.

  • On 3 February 2005, Nguyen appeared on Global National to talk about his viral music video You Got Beef? and Jane-Finch.com
  • 4 August 2005, Nguyen was featured in G4 Tech TV's Gadgets and Gizmos to talk about his community work in the Jane and Finch area.
  • On 2 December 2005, Nguyen took CBC Host Shelagh Rogers on a tour of the Jane-Finch area for her radio show Sounds Like Canada.
  • 14 January 2006, Nguyen appeared on CBC's Canada Now to discuss his community work.
  • On 7 April 2007, Nguyen's radio documentary Give A Hood A Bad Name... aired on CBC Radio One for Outfront.
  • On 24 May 2007, Nguyen and Mark Simms appeared on CBC News Morning with Heather Hiscox to talk about the Jordan Manners shooting.
  • On 24 May 2007, Nguyen and Mark Simms appeared on CTV's The Verdict with Paula Todd to discuss the Jordan Manners shooting

Nguyen has produced several broadcast works, primarily relating to the Jane and Finch area.

Paul Nguyen served as an associate producer on the Gemini-nominated documentary film "Lost in the Struggle" in association with CBC's flagship investigative news program The Fifth Estate.

Awards

On June 27, 2010, Paul Nguyen received the Paul Yuzyk Award for Multiculturalism from Canada's Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney, PC, MP.

In 2009, Nguyen received the William P. Hubbard Award for Race Relations from the City of Toronto.

In 1999, Nguyen was a national winner in Citizenship & Immigration Canada's Racism. Stop It! video competition. His winning entry was broadcast nationally on Much Music.
