Yeia sou!

Could you help me source this fact please?

It was not until the nineteenth century, however, with the birth of modern Greece, that the term "Byzantine" came into general use in the Western world.[citation needed]Before this time Greek had been used for the Empire and its descendants within the Ottoman Empire.

Thank you for your time.--Anothroskon (talk) 15:58, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Anothroskon. How are you? It is always very nice talking to you. Anyway, I thought this was a well-known fact. Now that you asked for a formal citation to support this however, I'll try my best to find a source for it. Hopefully it won't be be very hard to verify. Thank you for asking and take care. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 16:25, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the effort. I seem to remember reading about it somewhere but can't locate it now. I do remember reading in Peter Mckridge 2009 in the book regarding National Identity in Greece and Language that Greek historiography switched to using the term Hellenes to refer to the Romaioi of the ERE in the mid-19th century so it would be interesting to find out if the two changes happened at around the same time.--Anothroskon (talk) 20:56, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Don't mention it Anothroskon. It was my pleasure. Unfortunately I could not find a citation to connect both the Byzantine term and the associated Greek term in the 19th century and the one I found was peripheral. This is one time when Google-based online sources are not good enough to cover such specialised facts. Anyway it seems the two changes happened at around the same time but I wonder if the fact as currently stated in the article may be original research which was added by someone in the past who just connected these two facts together. Idée fixe

Thanks for the suggestion to break this up with headers. It was becoming a bit too diffuse. Brews ohare (talk) 18:52, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are very kind Brews. Thank you for your nice comment. You are also very welcome. Congratulations on the job you are doing and for the additional examples you added including those in the literature section. The Don Quixote example especially was great. Take care. Barnstars

Hi Dr. K: Thanks for the accolade. I haven't had much congratulation of late, so it's a welcome event. Brews ohare (talk) 13:34, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You well deserve them Brews. I knew of course of your numerous and long-standing contributions here but what clinched the deal for me was working in that new and delightfully eclectic article of yours Idée fixe which shows that the subject range of your science articles transcends technology. The barnstars just came naturally after this realisation. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 15:30, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

oversight/revdel?

Hi Dr.K. - I've got no idea how to file an oversight or revdel. I'd be glad to learn if you can point me in the correct direction (this one I cant find in the various rules and guidelines). Best, RobertMfromLI | User Talk 05:16, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RobertMfromLI. Xeno can actually do it, or any admin. WP:REVDEL and WP:OVERSIGHT include the mechanics of these processes. I hope this answers your question. Take care. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 05:24, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

cyprus and the so called TRNC

hello. since the republic of cyprus has both greek and turkish translations, its only fair to have a greek translation of the TRNC dont you think. after all greeks still live in the north —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyprus10 (talkcontribs) 01:43, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Dr.K. for your support in this matter. He also criticized me for reverting him the first time on the Cyprus page. — Glenn L (talk) 02:18, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Don't mention it Glenn. It is my pleasure. It is also my turn to thank you for your well made and logical arguments. Take care. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 02:23, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry Glenn, I thought you were one of the participants on Cyprus10's talkpage discussion. I now see you did not participate directly in a discussion with Cyprus10. Sorry for the confusion but I was involved in a few edits all over the place and I did not pay enough attention. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 02:47, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

About Mosques in Cyprus issue

Sir Dr.K I would like to express you my concerns over the pictures of mosques in Cyprus. I live in Cyprus and I know that this mosques don't exist in Cyprus non occupied land and belong to the so called Northern Cyprus which is actually Turkish occupied part of Cyprus which Turks invaded, killed thousands of women and children and reverted all christian churches into mosques. So if I find you also agreed I would like to clear pictures of Mosques of Cyprus because are not actually existing in this country except from Halla Sultan Mosques. Do you agree my friend?

List of patents awarded to Hendrik Wade Bode

Hi, thanks for your thoughts on merging his list of patents into the article itself. I understand that long lists of items may make the main article hard to read. I am surprised to see that presented as a problem in this case, for two reasons: First, the article on Bode himself is much longer than the list itself, so that the article would hardly be "just" the patent list. Second, you write that "it was suggested that" the list be split out into a separate article. That suggestion was made as part of peer review in 2008; you've clearly done significant work on the main article since. The fact that someone suggested it two years ago doesn't necessarily (IMHO) mean that this has to stay as a separate list.

In any case, it seemed odd to see an article that was simply a list of information culled from a longer article, when that list is a closed set and there are no other "List of Patents of ..." articles. If the original reason for it being split out continues, then the discussion is indeed over - and yes, it's proper to discuss such a disagreement instead of just reverting it. Jaeger5432 | Talk 23:55, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, this is why I started the discussion on the talkpage. If you still disagree with the original assessment please feel free to revert me and let the merge tag stand until a new consensus is reached. IMO the original reasons for splitting are still valid because this table is still large enough to seriously disrupt the continuity of the article, but that's just my opinion. Aristotle Onassis image

Regarding your removal of Aristotle Onassis' image from the infobox, could you specify where WP:Fair use policy disallows fair use images from infoboxes? I've seen them used in biography infoboxes (I'm sure cover art is a different story) before and I wasn't aware of any problem. Cheers, -M.Nelson (talk) 23:41, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can't quote the relevant policy section but it is something that happened to me in the past when I put a picture in an infobox and a local FUR expert reverted me after some time, although I don't recall the exact details. If you think that there is no policy disallowing this please go ahead and revert me. Thank you for letting me know. I appreciate it. Take care. I'm sorry, but I actually edited the Wikipediholism test which is considered humourous and added to it. I am permitted to edit this page. 115.128.41.26 (talk) 05:57, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Your edit: You hacked this page. was meant to be a jocular reference reflecting a high score. Sorry, I thought you were actually mentioning a hack of the page itself. I will revert my edits. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 06:06, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

question

I was looking at anti vandalism tools that don't require rollback, an I found this one this one, do you know how that tool works. --Inka888 19:45, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) - I think you're asking for an opinion on the tool, as the process is explained at what you linked above, Wikipedia:STiki. I personally have never used it (and don't plan to), but take a look at Wikipedia talk:STiki and User_talk:HJ_Mitchell/Archive_30#Wikipedia:STiki for recent opinions/questions. For another non-rollback required tool, take a look at WP:LUPIN (I've used it (still do on occasion), and it's not bad). Hope this helps, Airplaneman 21:02, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please feel right at home
What a great and complete analysis/reply. I really could not have given a better reply myself. Indeed this is a better reply than I could have provided. I guess having such knowledgeable and distinguished talk page stalkers visitors is a real blessing. Please feel right at home. Thank you very much Airplaneman. question

Is this a WP:CHILD case. --Inka888 01:23, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Correct. You should report this. Thanks for asking. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 01:26, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Would I do that at ANI or AIV? --Inka888 01:30, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
ANI. AIV is for vandalism and this case is not vandalism. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 01:33, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Someone already deleted it. No need to report. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 01:35, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I thought (regarding ANI), the page is not coming up as deleted. --Inka888 02:00, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? See the link you provided for me? If you click it it's no longer active. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 02:03, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What I meant was that if you click on the link there is no deletion reason I don't know why it would be hidden in this case. --Inka888 02:12, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. It must have been oversighted so it does not appear at the normal deletion logs. It can be accessed at Special:Oversight but only by oversighters. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 03:08, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On the topic of oversight, there was a comment on my talk page that was oversighted.....why? --Inka888Come yell at me! 23:05, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Editing while logged out reveals your IP. The revision deletion deletes the IP. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 23:18, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cyrus Cylinder

Dear Dr. K., Thank you for your message, I have already left the reason for the deletion. Please refer to the Edit Summary once again. Regards. Armaiti (talk) 05:43, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I know how to read edit summaries as well as anyone. I am afraid that no edit summary can justify your blanking of a whole paragraph including the citation in the article without you providing an alternative citation to support your assertions. What you did is called WP:OR at best. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 05:54, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Good catch on that Notorious B.I.G. article. How is it that you are alerted on certain articles when a change is made? I have to actually come to Wiki to check. Is there a feature where I can be emailed if this happens? Darius Sinclair™ 06:49, 11 October 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Darius Sinclair (talkcontribs)

Thank you. Actually you can click on the star symbol which appears to the right of the "edit" indicator in any article. This makes the article visible on your watchlist every time there is a new edit to that article. To check just click on the "watchlist" link at the top of the page. If you have any more questions please let me know. Best regards. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 07:17, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Huggle

On October 18th, inka 888 will have access to Huggle. Due to my recent trouble with Wikipedia:Igloo, I am thinking about giving Inka relaxed restrictions. How does 5 bad reverts per week sound?Talktome(Intelati) 01:14, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thanks, and I will tell him. Talktome(Intelati) 01:18, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Great. Thanks. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 01:22, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dr.K., just letting you know I've had to remove the WP:CSD#U1 tag on the user's talk page because talk pages aren't included in U1 as far as I know; they are kept for historical reference. Cheers, Airplaneman 04:19, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Airplaneman. I had given this user a warning for blanking, but after I investigated further the blanking by the IP was in good faith. Therefore I returned to their talkpage to remove the warning. Upon arriving there the IP had already placed the U1 template on their talk but with the wrong parameters. Given that there was no history to preserve I fixed the template the IP placed. By the way talk pages get deleted sometimes for various reasons. I have a few examples, one actually from today concerning a long-time user and another similar one from an IP but due to privacy concerns I will provide them to you if you really want them. Thank you for your message. Dr.K. λogosπraxis
That's true. I guess it's really how we interpret the "no history to preserve" part (@ WP:DELTALK - it mentions MfD as a way to delete talk pages if the need arises), but I don't think U1 can apply to talk pages, only copy-pasted talk page archives. I'm curious: was the talk page of a long-time user deleted via U1 or MfD? I can understand the deletion of the IP's talk page due to privacy concerns. Thanks, Airplaneman 23:53, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Airplaneman. It was U1. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 01:17, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yougomedia

Now that makes much more sense. I don't see the intent SPA, and I chose the username simply for simplicity of consolidating my usernames online to one, rather than 1000 usernames with all the forums and online services I use. I see the misconception since it is a new account with two edits in the same area, however, I can assure you I have a much broader area of interest and only happened to land on two articles requiring extra resources.

Thank you for the heads up on those resource links you provided me - WP:POPUPS, WP:ELNO and WP:SPA, great information to know for new editors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yougomedia (talkcontribs) 01:55, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, in that case please try to broaden the scope of your edits. Thank you. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 01:58, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Q about personal attack

Thank you very much for the support you are explaining to me about the GFDL issue between mine and Sanlakas' pages. I have another question if that is ok, about personal attacks. I am not an expert at this subject and some of the advanced rules in Wikipedia, but I'd appreciate help about this matter because it's been happening for a while. After I had talks with User:DisneySalt about uploading fair use logos, the user still has bad attitude and false semi-daily attacks on his or her's user talk about me. It disappoints me that the user is attacking me wherever I contribute to some Philippine articles mostly on the logos by just reverts. I understand that it was partially my fault too about reverting too much and just forget about it, but I don't know what to do anymore. What makes me disgusted the most is the edits here. Is this counted as a personal attack? I don't want to talk to the user because I am too uncomfortable to talk about this over and over. I doubt this is allowed, it's untolerable bullying which upsets me. I don't know what to do at all. I apologize if this isn't your strong subject. Any simple way to act upon this? --Dude (talk) 19:20, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dudejerome. Per WP:REMOVED a user is allowed to remove certain types of warnings from their talkpage. So DisneySalt was allowed under the guidelines to do so with respect to your warnings. On the other hand they should not refactor your remaining comments by adding their comments within your comments. This is not a good practice because it misleads the reader. The link you provided shows that DisneySalt replied to your comment after they modified yours. It is not good practice to modify a comment and then reply to it but their reply is not a personal attack per se. It just refers to the practice of uploading multiple files of the same subject. It does not refer to you personally but rather to the practice of uploading separate files, so it is not a personal attack. As far as uploading an image multiple times by different editors to the same filename is concerned, the practice is allowed. The upload log has all the different file versions uploaded so all uploaders get mentioned. So you get credit for whatever version you uploaded. I suggest you don't send this editor any more warnings and let this incident cool. Let me know if there are any other concerns you may have. Take care. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 19:49, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thank you for the clarification! --Dude (talk) 07:54, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Anytime. Take care Dude. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 12:04, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
