This Edward (b1525-d1586) was the Govenor of Hume castle, whose son Edward Dudley was born in 1556 and died in 1643. Edward was also the brother of John 3rd lord Dudley whom wed Cicily (ne) Grey, and the grandson of Edmund Sutton Knight of Dudley castle and Baron Tibertot and Cherleton (b 1425).

This branch of the Dudley family is of great interest to many family historians, especially in the United States where his cousins seem to have settled. He seems to have been a benefactor to his brother John, 3rd lord Dudley.

Baron EDWARD SUTTON Lord Dudley, K.G.(Knight of the Garter), in 1522 rented a house in Tothill Street, Westminster, and presumably resided there. He died aged about seventy-two on 31 Jan 1531/2.

Govenor Dudley was the heir of Edmund last lord Cherlton, Earl of Worcester (b.1495 d 1532) and his grandfather was the brother of John of Atherington, grandfather of the Duke of Northumberland.
