File renaming template

You used the {{rename media}} template on this file, but you didn't fill out the parameters. Please give the file a suggested name. The template currently appearing on the file will explain properly. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 20:52, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot that part - done, thanks. Kelly hi! 20:54, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 21:11, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

True Grit, etc.

To me, the bottom line question for any movie is, "Is it worth seeing once?", and your comments suggest the answer is "Yes", so I might go see it this weekend. The Duke won an Oscar for his version of it. It wasn't necessarily his greatest film, though it was very good; the Oscar was as much a "lifetime achievement" award as anything. Some think The Searchers was his best film, but he made a lot of top-notch westerns. He was a true Hollywood legend, who's been gone for over 30 years now, and I still miss him. So it goes. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots08:06, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have not seen The Cowboys in ages. Wasn't that noted for being the first time his character was killed on-screen? (Other than Davy Crockett) I saw the comment, "Some critics debated the film's implication that boys become men or confirm their manhood through acts of violence and vengeance." I love it when they try to impose current mores on period pieces. If it were a Godfather knockoff, and a bunch of kids became "made guys" after their Don was killed, they would probably say, oh, well, that's different. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots18:06, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm reminded of a comment from Woody Allen's Love and Death, which seems surprisingly current. It's about Russians preparing for war with Napoleon, and Woody is playing this timid soul. At a family gathering just before heading off to the Russian army, Woody's character Boris says, "I don't believe in war!" Someone else (maybe Boris' brother) retorts, addressing the group, "He doesn't believe in war, eh? Napoleon, he believes in war!" Therein lies the dilemma of pacifism. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots18:09, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I think John Wayne once said something to the effect that westerns are America's mythology, just as King Arthur is Britain's mythology - a genre that speaks to how America thinks of itself, or at least used to. The line between "legitimate" and "excessive" violence is where it gets tricky. Maybe that's why my childhood TV heroes were guys like Superman, The Lone Ranger and The Cisco Kid, who seemed to know where that line was - as did Wayne's characters, usually, although I didn't see any of his films until I was older. In contrast, a number of Clint Eastwood's films are basically bloodbaths, almost like "serious parodies" of the genre. Still fun to watch, though. :) ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots18:30, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

<Undent>If I may....There was a great line off the set of The Cowboys. John Wayne said to Bruce Dern: "America will hate you for this." Dern's reply: "But they'll love me in Berkeley.". And who knew that Eleanor Roosevelt was Dern's godmother (or so said Wikipedia a few months ago when I watched The Cowboys). Last night I saw The Hurt Locker, and saw some true grit there.Anythingyouwant (talk) 19:22, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Hurt Locker is good, though dark. That is a great line from The Cowboys - I need to go back and watch it again. Kelly hi! 19:24, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry

I made a mistake: I recently looked at the website I uploaded this image from and found it was indeed copyrighted. I am nominating it for deletion now. Thank you for helping realize my mistake,

Well done

Good spotting on Image known as IanMeldrum 2005.jpg at Ian Meldrum. I try to be so careful about copyright and would have sworn it was okay but clearly it is not. I apologise for my error: I'd say delete it straight away.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 18:54, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the deletion & additional advice, I've found another image. Its being processed at Wikimedia Commons as I'm writing this.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 20:19, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Image to be deleted

[1]. Anyway, thanks. --Bhadani (talk) 19:13, 25 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Yellow mustang.jpg

Hi I noticed you requested deletion for File:Yellow mustang.jpg. However appropriate permission was granted by the original copyright owner Morven who shares an account on flickr and Wikipedia. So I would suggest that you ask the deleting admin to reverse their deletion. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 01:46, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There wasn't any evidence of the permission on the image page, and if I recall correctly there was a different license at the image source. Kelly hi! 01:54, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

re: category delete

Hi - thanks for letting me know about that. When we get done with deleting or retagging the files in each daily category, we delete them under WP:CSD#G6 as housekeeping. I must have automatically deleted this one thinking it was a daily category with a date attached. If we need it, we can always recreate it or undelete it. Thanks again - KrakatoaKatie 03:24, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh no - you didn't make me mad! I must spread hugs all around the Kelly and the Ogre.. {{{{{hugs}}}}} :-) KrakatoaKatie 05:18, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kelly,

This is just a question, I noticed on your page you have been involved in the Sarah Palin article for some time. Do you have a possible WP:COI or WP:BIAS in regards to this issue? Of course if you do, than means very little, just that we should be aware of it. Thank you for your time, Sephiroth storm (talk) 08:22, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not particularly politically inclined toward the Republican Party, but I do favor the BLP policy. If anything, I'm biased against political POV-pushers; my main focus on this place has always been images and copyrights with the occasional foray elsewhere. I originally got involved with the Palin articles just before this insanity and I'm pretty familiar with the different types of POV-pushing, and various attack memes, that happen at those articles. I'd challenge anyone to find an edit of mine to those articles that wasn't NPOV or sourced. Kelly hi! 08:39, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just checking, I don't have the passion to go digging through histories these days. Happy Holidays :) Sephiroth storm (talk) 11:16, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

St Paul's Presbyterian Church‎

Hi Kelly. By pure chance I noticed the entries you made on my old talk page earlier today. You flagged the two images that I uploaded several years ago at the request of the minister of that church as having a file source problem and set them up for deletion. These images were created by the congregation of the church itself which asserts no copyright on them. I scanned them myself from the source material given to me by the church, and uploaded them at the ministers' request. No copyright exists on these images, and the file was created by me and I assert no copyright. Unfortunately I will no longer edit wikipedia (if you read my talk page, you will see why) after my last episode dealing with deletionists several years ago which showed me the futility of spending time editing wikipedia. If you wish to go ahead and allow these files to be deleted knowing that no copyright exists on them, and they are the only images in the article which illustrate the church in its current and historical states, then you may do so. I will not intervene either by breaking my previous vow to never again edit a wikipedia article, or by reuploading them. Wikipedia will be poorer without the images if they are deleted but that is a fact that I came to terms with several years ago. Since you now know the details on these images, you may go in and correct the mistake you made my either adding the information you feel is missing, or removing the request for deletion. Or you may do nothing and allow the mistaken delete to continue. Its your choice. These images exist nowhere on the web that can be linked to (as I noted, I scanned them from original congregational source material). If you have any questions, I will check your page later tonight or tomorrow for any replies or follow up questions but I won't be logging into my original account (caper13) so no point posting on my talk page again. Here are the images

If possible, you should e-mail the images with an appropriate license to the WP:OTRS folks. There are instructions on the template I put on your old talk page. Kelly hi! 05:20, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I no longer contribute to Wikipedia. Technically I am probably breaking my previous vow by even posting on your talk page and preventing the deletion of those images. But I will no longer submit images to wikipedia, or coordinate with any wikipedia group. When Jimbo himself threw me overboard in favour of a vandal who was only a couple months later banned from wikipedia for sock puppetry and disruption, it sort of soured me on the whole thing. You know the images are free and I originally uploaded them stating that there was no copyright. You flagged the images as being improper. I pointed out your mistake by filling in the information you did not know. If there is anything that needs to be done now, you should take responsibility and do it. Wikipedia said it had no need of me several years ago, and I am holding them to it. Frankly I don't care if the quality of the article declines due to your action. Do you? 69.234.192.182 (talk) 05:31, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

go ahead and delete it

if you want to destroy images because they don't fit the new-new-new-NEW image guidelines and make articles poorer for it, by all means, go to town and enjoy yourself while you're at it. but i want to let you know i find it offensive you don't bother to read my user talk page when you leave me nagging messages about it. you expect me to read yours, with its very special message about trust, and yet you do not extend me the same courtesy. bottom line: i've been here long enough that i have seen the rules change so many times i do not believe i can successfully contribute content of any value without it being destroyed by the vicissitudes of wikipedia politics. so go on, kill images, and with it understand why so many have left and people like me, who once strove to create better articles or indeed write them from scratch -- now rarely do more than correct simple grammatical errors or typos. consider yourself one of the lucky ones who got me to say anything at all. or even, really, to log in. ... aa:talk 00:52, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Delete, Delete, Delete!

Go ahead and delete my photo (Al22 elusive.jpg), I'll just reload it with a new copyright. This photo is part of a series of shots of me sailing my boat, taken on my camera, for me, by someone (I didn't know then and don't know now, who pressed the button) on the chase boat. Ya know, sometimes things are not cut and dry...Alberg22 (talk) 04:12, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
