Jazz in the Domain at the Sydney Festival in 2007.

Summer Sounds in The Domain (previously known as Jazz in The Domain) is the first of three open-air concerts, that take place during the month of January. Summer Sounds in The Domain is part of Sydney Festival, and is traditionally held on the second Saturday evening of January. The event attracts crowds of up to 80 000 people, and has become one of the most popular events of Sydney Festival as well as the Sydney summer calendar. It is followed by Symphony in The Domain and Mazda Opera in The Domain, held on the third and fourth Saturday nights in January respectively.

The main performances usually start after dark, although entertainment is provided for people who arrive early to gain the best spots closer to the stage.

Over the last few years, Summer Sounds in The Domain has featured music to get the crowd up and dancing.

The event is usually two and a half hours, and is free of charge. It is often opened by the Lord Mayor of Sydney.
