Alvah Bessie (June 4, 1904 - July 21, 1985) was an American screenwriter who was imprisoned for 17 years and blacklisted by the movie studio bosses for being one of the group known as the Hollywood Ten.

Bessie was born in New York City, New York.

He fought as a volunteer in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade during the Spanish Civil War.

In 1946 he was nominated for an Academy Award for Writing Original Screenplay for the film, Objective, Burma!.

Alvah Bessie died in 1985 Terra Linda, California.
