Dr. Jennifer Mason was a fictional character on the New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street. She was portrayed by well known actress Sara Wiseman.
Character History
Prior to Shortland Street
Jennifer met and married a man named Jim. While looking after her sisters daughter, she lost sighting of her and discovered that she had gone onto the road and been killed under Jennifers care. Jennifer took it very deeply. She later divorced her husband.
2010-2011
Jennifer arrives to meet Rachel McKenna and head of surgery, Chris Warner. Chris sees a potential romance with Jennifer. Chris hires Jennifer for several surgeries but after he discovers she lied to him about rostering herself twice, he does not rehire her. Though it turns out that she had not rostered herself twice, rather her husband was rostered and he had the same initials. Jennifer soon picks up a long term position at the hospital. When a child patient dies, she kisses Hunter McKay to express her emotions. Realizing what she had done, she backed off and let him down kindly. At Isaac Worthingtons dinner party, she started a romance with TK Samuels. She is often seen dining with Luke Durville. Jennifer and TK break up when TK realizes he is still in love with his ex wife Sarah. Jennifer starts to socialize with Maia and her girlfriend Nicole. Jennifer begins to realise Maia acts strange around her. Jennifer gets annoyed when her ex husband Jim trys to get back together with her. While at the Christmas party Maxwell Avia reveals Maia has got a crush on Jennifer which leaves her shocked.
Jennifer is first seen in 2011 being hesitant and uneasy towards Maia as they both operate on Jim who has been badly beaten. Jim asks Jennifer to help him make life decisions but Jennifer stays away and Maia helps her through it. Jennifer confronts Maia about Maia's feelings, Maia tells her she does have a crush but nothing more. Jennifer begins to grow curious and develop feelings towards Maia and the two have dinner together while Nicole is away. They go back to Maia's apartment and while dancing, Jennifer kisses Maia. After a while, Maia stops and apologizes. After avoiding each other at work, Jennifer admits her feelings to Maia in the lift and they start passionately kissing. The two embark on an affair, but when Nicole returns to town, the two decide to do whats right and ignore each other. Jennifer can not help it though and she confronts Maia in the carpark, the two start kissing and eventually have sex in Maia's car. Maia dumps Nicole for Jennifer which shocks her greatly and Jennifer is confronted by a furious Nicole in triage in front of Jennifer's friends and colleagues. After being ridiculed by Isaac Worthington, Jennifer resigns and decides to ditch town. Maia arrives as Jennifer is leaving and she tells Maia that she is sorry for ruining her life and with that, Jennifer leaves.
