DIB is not a "4-star post". The only "4-star" posts in the Union of India, are those held by the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Navy staff, and Chief of Air Staff. The Director, IB, is an officer in the pay of Secretary to the Government, which is equivalent to an Army GoC of a Field Army, which is to say, a Lieutenant General. Wearing of incorrect and false insignia to which one is not entitled, does not make an officer a "4 star" officer, it merely makes the incumbent look foolish, and this fallacy should not be repeatedly perpetuated.

The chiefs of army, navy, and air staff are all officers in the same scale of pay as the cabinet secretary. The Director, Intelligence Bureau, is NOT. The Government has repeatedly REFUSED to give the Director, Intelligence Bureau, a scale of pay equivalent to the three service chiefs, and the cabinet secretary. Merely modifying ones shoulder flashes to make onesself look like one is superior to the rank that one actually holds, is simply immodesty, and falsehood.
