"Katta" is a modern Hindi word that refers to the state which someone reaches when something wrong or undesirable happens to a them. The term comes up frequently in casual conversation, and can be used in a variety of contexts. Examples of usage include "तेरा तो कट्टा हो गया " (translation: "You got screwed") or "मेरा तो कट्टा हो गया , पापा को मेरे नंबर पता चल गए !" (translation: "I am done for - dad got to know about my marks!"). Sometimes it may be used just to warn someone about something like "Yeh mat kar warna katta ho jayega sheeru"(translation: "Don't do this - it will end badly") or "Chota will either join AT&T or AT Kearney, otherwise uska katta ho jaega." The term is frequently used by youngsters in colleges.There is a song based on the word "katta",the song is "sabka katega" composed and sung by bodhi tree, a band famous amongst college going people. In this song, the title means that 'some thing undesirable will happen with everyone'. Can also be used to refer to persons with Katiyar as their last name. e.g. "Sakshi Katiyar" can be referred to as "Katta"
Other Meanings
- Katta is also used for a jute bag which is used for transporting food grains.
- Katta or Desi Katta is used to refer to hand made indigenous weapon that is similar to a gun used and manufactured illegally in India and some other countries.[1]
