Rachel Kum is an entrepreneur and a beauty pageant titleholder who won the Miss Singapore Universe 2009 title. At the Miss Singapore Universe 2009 pageant, Rachel won Miss Body Beautiful and Miss Personality as well.[2] She represented Singapore as one of the 84 competing contestants[3] in the Miss Universe 2009 pageant, which was held at the Atlantis Paradise Island, in Nassau, Bahamas on August 23, 2009.[4][5]

Career

Rachel Kum is a graduate of the University of Western Australia, where she majored in Finance. Professionally, Rachel worked in a hedge fund company trading commodities and futures in 2007. Her fund felt the heat of the recession in early 2009 and she went on to work as a Brand Manager in and also de facto brand ambassador for a company called Dermasolutions which specializes in beauty and aesthetics. Soon after, Rachel's ability to combine her modeling experience with her professional background and her love of nature, beauty and cosmetics made creating her own cosmetics company, called Rachel K Cosmetics, a focus of her personal expression.[6] Rachel K Cosmetics was the main makeup sponsor for Miss Singapore Universe 2010 pageant and was also a supporting sponsor for the annual Singapore Jewellery Show 2010 in Marina Bay Sands held in Singapore in August 2010.[7]

Rachel was featured in multiple articles such as Power Women in Urban Straits Times for her entrepreneurship,[8] featured as a cover model for international lifestyle magazine, Adoh, for her charity work in Sri Lanka in November 2009,[9] advertised for Windows commercial in AXN Asia television,[10] featured as a cover story model for Club Med in Maldives throughout South East Asia, made multiple appearances in RazorTV lifestyle,[11] featured in Hong Kong Channel V with Lisa S. and a guest in a local entertainment talk show program, Entertainment on 5.[12] Rachel K Cosmetics launch was filmed by Channel News Asia which featured her special guest and friend, Eduardo Saverin (Co-founder of Facebook).[13] The Rachel K Mineral CC cream line is the next generation BB cream that is formulated with pure minerals, making it suitable for all skin types including highly sensitive ones and is exclusively available in a limited market.[14][15][16][17] Rachel K Mineral CC cream collection was highly praised by many local celebrities and top beauty bloggers and was also strongly recommended by top Hong Kong based prominent makeup artist, Zing (makeup artist), who is the appointed personal makeup artist for singers and actresses such as Zhang Ziyi, Shu Qi, Faye Wong, Sammi Cheng, Kelly Chen, Angelababy and many more.[18] In September 2010, Rachel K Cosmetics was the main sponsor for 9 special contestants from Miss Universe 2009 for a promotional event for Formula 1 and Rachel K Cosmetics in Singapore, supported by Singapore Grand Prix and Resorts World Sentosa. Rachel K Cosmetics is the first make-up brand in Asia to be marketed as a beauty queen's brand that is supported by pageant and beauty queens from around the world. Rachel K Cosmetics is now selling exclusively in Watsons Singapore and selected retail outlets in Hong Kong, Thailand, Germany and Singapore.
