5 Days of August (5 Days of War in the UK and USA) is a film directed and co-produced by Finnish Renny Harlin and funded by the Georgian government. The story is about the August 2008 Russia-Georgia conflict.

Plot

The film is set before and during the August 2008 Russia-Georgia conflict.

The President of Georgia announce that the country is going to war with Russia over the territory of South Ossetia. American reporter Thomas Anders along with his cameraman Chris Bailot are deployed to cover the unfolding events as the conflict escalates. As the journalists delve deeper into Georgian life, they get caught in the crossfire when an air raid strikes a local wedding they stumble upon. Their "mission" then becomes to get their report out of the country to raise awareness of violence they've witnessed, and to help reunite Tatia, a young Georgian girl with her family.[1]

Cast

Production

Filming started in October 2009, in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The Georgian government provided the use of military equipment, and the presidential residence of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili was used for filming.

In early planning stages the film was referred to as the "Untitled Renny Harlin/Georgia-Russia War Project", before being dubbed "Georgia", then renamed "Red August". Finally the film was released in Georgia as "5 Days of August", and in other countries as "5 Days of War".
