Started in 2011, GreenXC[1] is an organization that works to raise awareness and funds for National Parks and the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s nearly 400 national parks[2]. It focuses on the young generation and seeks to connect them to the parks in order to ensure the parks are supported for the next generation of taxpayers. GreenXC aligns itself with the National Parks Foundation's goal of being "deeply committed to engaging the country's youth into a lifelong experience with the parks."[3] GreenXC directs all donations and support directly to the park or foundation requested by the donating party.

Project Summer 2011 - Rideshare Cross Coutry

In 2011 GreenXC is set to travel cross country to raise money for the National Parks. "GreenXC, an ensemble of green-minded young professionals, has a mission to travel cross-country solely by rideshares. A unique twist to a traditional road trip, rideshares make for great adventures as eco-enthusiastic travelers connect, journey together and help reduce carbon footprints. Roadtrippers find one another via blogs, social media, even Craig’s List."[4]

"GreenXC will collect and document the stories of the people who help turn these ambitions into a reality. The experiences will be shared through daily blog posts and video footage on youtube."[5] Those following can interact and donate directly to the parks visited. The route of the trip will be crowd sourced through suggestions on Twitter, Facebook, the GreenXC blog/forum and social sites like Reddit.

Focus on Young Generation

GreenXC aligns itself with the Federal Goverment's goal of promoting the National Parks to the young generation.[6] In 2011, the President set as one of the top goals of the Federal Government to promote the great outdoors and especially to the youth. "Special attention should be given to bringing young Americans into the conversation."[7]
