A better name for this article is needed. First and foremost there is no reason for this title to be capitalized since it is not a proper noun. Second the wording itself needs to be revamped. How about List of famous kidnappings? --mav

article could use a rewrite for style.

Link to Seka Aleksic in the "Faked kidnappings" section doesn't point to the right person.

These aren't so much famous kidnappings as kidnappings connected to famous people. I'm not sure if we need a better title, or a better/different organization, perhaps sorting well-known cases like Hearst, Lindbergh, and Aldo Moro from little-known incidents connected to celebrities. This is a list of modern kidnappings of celebrities' relatives, not a list of famous kidnappings. When I saw the title, I was going to add Edgardo Mortara to the list. He was kidnapped in 1858 at the age of 6. Obviously his case fits this article's title. But he and his family were not celebrities, nor rich. He doesn't fit with the others on this list. I think the thing to do rather than to have moved the article would have been to add Edgardo Mortara and change the tone of the first paragraph of the article. There's no need to limit it to modern celebrities. - Hephaestos 01:16, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I've moved it to list of modern kidnappings of celebrities' relatives. Maybe now the redirect page list of famous kidnappings can be converted into an actual list of famous kidnappings. For the benefit of those who think of Charles Lindbergh as having existed at the Beginning of Time, let me mention here that the fact that it was in the 1930s makes the word modern completely appropriate; recorded history actually began before the 20th century. List of famous kidnappings - other incidents?

Patricia Hearst is only listed under "modern kidnappings of celebrities and their relatives". Shouldn't she be in the famous kidnappings list as well? The case is legendary in its own right; its not only significant because of who she was. What about Carlie Brucia, the Florida girl whose kidnapping was caught on a survelliance videotape and broadcast to the whole country? Joseph from Genesis, kidnapped by his brothers and sold into slavery?

Why is Alejandro Toledo in this article?

Can anyone clarify why Alejandro Toledo, former President of Peru is in this article. I did not see any reference to him being kidnapped or being suspected of being kidnapped. ProfessorPaul 06:58, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Writing style

"This crime is flourishing in poor countries, where the economic situation can drive people to desperate measures." seems like an amateurish tack-on.
